Default Remember Action Park in NJ??

Kids would die there every summer in the 90's. They would have the weirdest rides, like a big slingshot where people would sit in a cage...and they would be launched into the air. I remember the cage went flying into the air one time and the cord snapped and the riders were crippled or killed.

Anybody from the NJ area remember this sketchy ass amusement park?

They tell you how people got injured or died on each ride.

They were asking for trouble.

Wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooot!

I went to Action Park every summer for my sister's birthday. If you haven't left skin behind on the alpine slide, you're a puss!

I guess I'll chime in here since I worked there for years, and am still heavily affiliated with the resort. I was a supervisor there for a long time. I was responsible for the Spaceshot, Slingshot and the Bungee Tower. Never had any incident while I was there. My boss was a professional rigger, bungee cord manufacturer and exteme sports junky so he was really up on the safety thing. Now I'm not saying that those rides were not dangerous, but there was no accidents while I was there on those particular rides.

Oh yeah and that loop thing. That was awesome to watch people get out of, they would stand up then fall over because they were dizzy. Funny stuff.

We went there as kids. We lived in NY and I remember the commercials on all the time.
We had a blast, this was in the early 80's.

Thumbs up

Alpine Slide was awesome, but so many riders went all out, no braking, and went flying off the track. As a 10-11yr. old, I remember riding up the ski lift to the top once, and looking down on some lady laying on her stomach in the grass, screaming. She had tumbled off the sled somehow, and roadrashed/skinned the backs of both her legs.

I still went down....and fast.

Action Park ruled, but it had a nickname of Accident Park by the time I was a teenager.

The tarzan swing kicked ass, but the water was like 33 degrees so you'd have a heart attack as soon as you hit the water. I liked the colorado water slides and all that stuff. That place was so much fun, and it wasn't that expensive. Maybe $25 on a weekday or something? There were a ton of rides to go on, and the lines generally weren't that long except on a weekend during the peak of the summer.

Many a wasted summer day was spent there. A carload of people for $50.00 with a box of <insert promotional partner/food item here>.
3 carloads go up, ditch two cars at the Shoprite parking lot down the road, and pile in for the short trip to the gate FTW.

I used to see the commercials for this on WPIX during the 80's. I wanted to go there so bad because it looked so fun. It might as well been located on Mars though, cause there was no way my parents would ever take us. (it was like 400 miles from us.)

I still want to go there!

Is there still a water park where Action Park was? I know it's a ski resort in the winter, but what has become of the water park itself? Before I moved to PA I heard it closed.

Oh, man, I was there about ten times when I was younger. I knew the place had a few accidents, but I didn't realize it had such a reputation. Me and my friends stopped going when they started making the rides safer, like taking the jump out of the last lanes on Surf Hill (since someone supposedly broke their back on a landing), using less-slippery mats on the water rides, not letting you dive off the cliffs anymore, etc. It was boring.

This Wikipedia page has be laughing so hard, I have tears running down my face. Thanks for the memories!

I remember that there wasn't even a real 'catch pool' at the end of that deathtrap. It was just basically a Slip 'n Slide over some rocky grass. I only ever saw lifeguards testing it once and it stood unused for years afterward.

I had heard rumors that someone got stuck at the bottom and drowned because the rushing water had nowhere to go. I had also heard that someone didn't make the loop entirely and came back to the bottom only to be hit by the next person coming down because the lifeguards weren't paying attention. Yikes.

WPIX, that was channel 11 right? I remeber they had a game that you could play on TV where you would call i and live on the air they would have a space invaders type video game (80's graphics) and the caller would have to say pix everytime they wanted the gun to fire. They would end up just saying pixpixpixpixpixpixpixpixpixp[ixpixpixpix as fast as they could.

Ah the rumors. I heard that someone got stuck in there and broke his neck. I have been to Action Park at least 10 times, and not once was that ride open. I wouldn't go on it if you paid me.
