Default OT Mountain bikers, Roadies...

Do you consider the price of a new bike (say mid-range HT or entry level Tri-bike) to be reasonable or on the expensive side?

Let me restate the question....

Why does a bike cost $1500 for a mid-level HT/entry level Tri with, say LX/105 components, when 75-80% of the bike is mass produced? I understand differences in frame material, welding, R&D...

oh ok ok ok...i see what you are saying now.

have you ridden the difference yet? like, have you ridden a Fuji Ultegra Pro with ALL Ultegra parts vs. a Motobecane sora level bike? i'll be the first to say there are bikes out there that are overpriced for what they are, but when it comes to road and cyclocross bikes (i don't know mtb very good) you get what you pay for.

You know the ratings for road bikes right? The classes the Italians had designated for the specific components and prices for each bike:

From beginner to pro/semi-pro

1. Sora
2. Tiagra
3. 105
4. Ultrega (there's a bunch under this category)
5. Dura Ace

^^^

Those are actually Shimano (a Japanese companies) components. Campy (Campagnolo) is an Italian company.

I've ridden and owned some fairly high end bikes...I had a Felt F1 (Full Dura-ace), a Motobecane Fly 9357 (sub 21lb HT, LX/XT/XTR mix) ridden my friend's Litespeed full susser (cost over $4000) so I'm fairly well acquainted with high end gear. My question is why are they so expensive...or not?

I know Shimano is a Japanese company dude, I was just talking about the ratings of the bikes, not the origin of their manufacture.

Why they are so expensive, iunno...I really don't know.
