Honestly for $40 I'd just file it away and just don't bring it up, I don't think it's worth the IRS time to chase after you for $40 taxable

Same **** happened to me. Received a 1099B yesterday super late. I cloned my Turbotax file and added in the 1099B to see a what-if. In my case, it was about $200 that the IRS is gonna want from me. From what I read, since the IRS has accepted my return (but hasn't approved the refund or issued it) that I should wait to receive the refund, then I need to paper-file a 1040X amended return.

Since the IRS knows about that 1099B, I assume it's not really something that would need an audit to uncover and that they'll be looking for that $ eventually with interest and penalties.

Why the hell are 1099Bs arriving so goddamn late?

I'm not 100% sure on the amount. She showed me it really quick and then put it on my desk.

Yeah I agree. I'll double check the amount.

That's smart about the clone. I'll double check the amount later this evening and see.

Turbotax/Intuit knows what they're doing, and I think it's scummy. I'm going to look more closely into 100% free options next year now that they've poked the bear.
They never included e-file for state for as long as I've been using them (probably 10 years and the deluxe version). It's always been like that. I just mail in my state.

My insurance doesn't cover it and it wasn't a huge amount anyway, I'm just being a bitch.

AR and AZ are stupid abbreviations. That is all.

Yeah. It's an upcharge for my policy. I could have used it twice in the last 8 years but still not worth the cost. It's almost as if insurance is a numbers game.

CPA called. Getting back $5099 from the feds. Will take five grand in savings bonds. Wife's work with held for Rhode Island (where they're located) and owe us $35 and we owe Mass $101. Lots of changes from last year when we got back fourteen grand. Didn't send in estimated quarterly payments. I got a lot more for selling tradelines. Wife started working full time, but full 401k deduction. Covid gave me a 10% "voluntary" reduction in pay that oddly, nobody ever asked me...they just reduced my pay. Lower bonuses throughout the year. So even with the wife going to full time back in March or so, we made less than last year. The good news in this is that we qualified for some stimulus where we had received zip. Also ok for Roth contributions, so $14k was immediately put into the market.

Have to send my uncle a check for 7500. Wife under estimated what she’d earn last year as a RE agent, she’ll bump her quarterlies some this year to see if we can get closer to a zero owed next year.

I’m not unhappy cutting that check, oddly.

I filed with the IRS on 2/18, accepted almost immediately but no refund approved or has hit our account yet. I do know that I need to file an amended return to reduce said refund by ~$200, but that form will not be ready until 3/25.

I got my PIN from the California FTB last week and used their eFile system to file for free. Very easy and straightforward to use. I had my TurboTax state paper (non-filed of course) on the screen for a sanity check at the end. I verified everything line by line, but for some reason TurboTax generates a $1 additional refund vs CA's eFile tool. The only thing I can think of is rounding up versus rounding down. But imagine if you were able to pocket $1 additional from every tax payer...

March 25th I believe is the magic date that you can start amending. But from what I gather, don't do it until your IRS refund is issued.

I filed Fed on Feb 18, but no refund authorized or received yet. I checked my IRS transcript today and they don't even show it as filed yet, so there's a significant backlog or they don't like something about mine. Today is day 14, and the tracker cites up to 21 days.

I received my CA state refund today, filed through their free eFile tool on Feb 25--so exactly 7 days.
