I know Covid-19 has ****ed everything but it does feel like the first trailer dropped five years ago

Wasn't it held from release and then finally scheduled to release Dec 2020 after being delayed due to the Rona?

Because of the aviation nerd that I am and having been at the right age to like the original, I am looking forward to this. The use of real, in aircraft filming and those poor actors having to deal with 7-8G maneuvers hopefully makes it realistic and more immersive for viewers that appreciate the details specific to aviation and combat aviation specifically.

Yes, I think it was held up due to 'rona similar to No Time To Die (which they ended up reshooting parts of because the gadgets looked dated already).

And yeah, there's no acting happening at 7-8g...it hurts. So reactions are likely to be real.

If you are looking down when the pilot starts a 5g pullup while wearing a 4lb helmet, you won't be able to move your head until the pilot lets off. Pretty uncomfortable.

Top Gun 2: Missed Approach

Quote:
After several pandemic-related delays,*Tom Gun: Maverick*has a (likely)*final release date. The film will debut on Memorial Day weekend 2022. The latest delay pushed the film from November 2021 to the new May 2022 date.

I'm OK with that though, I want to see it in a theater and with the way things are right now and looking forward for awhile, I won't be going to a theater anytime soon.

It'll probably be Summer of Tom in 2022 because Mission: Impossible 7 is supposed to premiere as well.

Not to use orndog's joke but...

I have still yet to see a single MI from start to finish. I already thought Tom was a kook when I was 13 and never gave the rest of the series a second thought.

Shouldn't there be another Jack Reacher movie coming out too as some point?

Anyway - looking forward to this when it hits theaters eventually.

There are 6 mission impossible movies? I'm so out of touch.

Do yourselves favors and watch the Mission: Impossible films. At least watch 3, 5 and 6. 4 is great, but I don't wanna give out too much homework. 6 is the best, but it's more appreciated if you've seen 3 and 5.

2 is most certainly not for everyone, but it has its (John Woo) moments that I like.

I liked the first Mission: Impossible the best. It feels the closest to the original premise, and Brian de Palma's style was perfect for it. The rest of the film series, as good and watchable as they generally are, are slowly suffering from the same bloat that killed The Fast and the Furious franchise.

M:I 2 had too much John Woo crap in it.

You can't compare the in-camera practical stunt work of M:I with the CGI-fest of F&F. The reason the M:I movies keep making more money is because people enjoy seeing Tom do his own stunts and they're filmed, very, very well.

Fallout was my favorite movie of 2018. Fight me.

Any gripes that can be had about that film can only achieve the status of "third worst thing about MI:2"

#2 on the list goes to "Load era" Metallica's song

#1 goes to "Limp Bizkit era" Limp Bizkit's song.

MI:2 was definitely peak Y2K Hollywood.

MI:7 should be shown as a double feature with Top Gun 2 and have a post credit scene where you see Cruise sneaking into a theatre, loading up the disc/drive/whatever into the system and hitting "play" then immediately start showing Top Gun 2.

Holy crap that would be HILARIOUS.

I have been looking forward to Top Gun 2: Top Gunnier since the trailers came out. I can see why they want to hold off and get that sweet, sweet theater money, and I think they have a while yet while there will still be people who want to see it in the theater.

But I don't know that theaters are going to be a thing again, at least not with the density they used to have. It was looking good for a while earlier this summer, but "just when you think you're IN, they PULL YOU BACK OUT."

At some point, they're going to have to decide $x now, or $y at some point z years in the future.

The last movie I saw in the theater was "Ford v Ferrari" with my son. We would totally go see the Top Gun one. But it looks like it'll be a while, and after waiting THAT long it's probably fine to wait for it to pop up on a streaming service like we know it will anyway.

We had a group with enough people to reserve a whole viewing and see it together but now that's on hold for the 3rd time.

Oh well, I'll go see 007 and Dune an extra time or two in October instead.

I don't want to be the debbie downer but the streaming services have cut the legs off movie theaters. Whether it is "safe" or not it is so much easier for me to rent the paw patrol movie through Amazon or gasp Comcrap and watch at home.

Pros:
- I don't have to worry about kids needing to go to the bathroom and missing something.
- I can sit on my own couch
- I can control the volume
- I can watch it whenever I want without having to pick a random time to go. - It is overall cheaper (no movie theater extras to pay for)
- No waiting (I can have it now dammit)
- I don't eat overly buttered / salted popcorn.
- I don't have to wear a mask or be inside with a bunch of other people that I don't know for 3 hrs.

Cons:
- Theaters don't make sweet theater money
- My only tv is a 42" Panasonic Plasma from 2006.

I have seen all of the mission impossible movies but still would have only guessed there were 3 or 4 of them. They all feel like the same movie.

Still enjoy them enough to watch on a Friday or Saturday night when browsing the streaming services for something to watch.

I've been to the movies a few times since the Spring. One of the upsides now is that the theaters are practically empty.

I do also enjoy watching movies at home but it's still no comparison to seeing them on the big screen which is why I'll still pay money and see certain ones in the theater.

Yep, still a big fan of the 'movie theater experience' here.

Not at all happy that Top Gun 2 has been bumped.

I agree that streaming / home viewing has changed the theater business model. But there's some non-overlapping parts of the Venn diagram, as shiplemw points out.

I LOVE being able to start it, stop it, rewind it, etc.
I LOVE that I can watch a 2 hour movie in 2 hours, not 20 minutes to get to the theater, 20 minutes to get parked / tickets / seated, 10 minutes of commercials (I do like the previews though) and then 20 minutes to get home. I mean, I like getting out and doing stuff, but sometimes I don't want a 3 hour thing to watch a movie that's 2 hours long.
I LOVE that my 2 hour movie starts when I want.
My inexpensive Sony Bravia isn't any home audio/video buff's dream screen, but it looks good to me.
My audio setup is "eh" to "pretty good." (Hafler / Monitor Audio / Cerwin-Vega passive sub)

But "Ford v Ferrari" in the theater was a nice dad/son event, and it'd be cool to do the Top Gun 2 one in a theater together too. (He named his dog "Goose" and we throw the movie lines around ironically sometimes, even now.)
