I finally switched to LastPass before Christmas (my wife uses it for work, so paid version).
Prior to that I used an app called "OI Safe". It wasn't really a password manager in the true sense, and more of an encrypted electronic version of the old spiral paper notepad we used to use. There's no cloud...the file uses 256AES encryption and is only stored on the local device. You can export backups (encrypted) to another device if you wish. Obviously limited to Android only. But I finally relented and went to Lastpass since it has more features. |

I realize it's just giving Google more data on me, but the integrated password manager in Chrome has been working fine for me.

I use that for inconsequential stuff like forums. Hopefully you at least have 2FA enabled on your Google account.

I’ve read what you said, you’re right to some extent and I would like to add a bit more to it. If you want to make websites then nothing’s more good than WordPress. Because besides the fact that it’s really easy to use for everyone, there are also a number of features for everyone speedput.
For all this, you should have a good speed of the internet. Because there’s no point in doing all this if you don’t have speedy internet. For the problems of the internet, I would suggest this site where you can find the solutions to your all problems and you never get stuck . |

I just transferred my stuff from one manager to another the other day. 188 entries. 4 or 5 were not passwords, just secure notes. Between crazy security at work and all the website logins, I probably use 30+ of them regularly. Another 20 are ones the wife shared with me for stuff that I'll prob never need to use like her health insurance login, etc. and at least 20 are for stuff that I'll probably never use ever again... But if I do it's there! It's nice to be able to make super strong 32 character, letter/number/symbol passwords and not have to remember anything.

^^^^Pretty much what Grundlejuice said.
When work went to single sign on and 2FA, that cut those down from about 30 to 10 or so. My wife and I have a bunch of shared ones for stuff like stupid IoT devices, but also stuff like utilities, bank accounts, etc. I would bet between my wife and I, we have a combined 300+ passwords. And yeah, probably 30% of those are for junk/garbage accounts used once. |

Well, here's another strike against Lastpass.
Researcher finds 7 different 3rd party trackers embedded in the Lastpass Android app. Company spokesperson claims that there's a setting to allow you to opt out. That setting does not exist in the app. https://www.theregister.com/2021/02/...tpass_android/ |

Anyone use bitwarden? That appears to be the best free option out there. Lastpass paywall goes up tomorrow.

I don't have an issue paying for LastPass but it seems impossible to figure out who is actually deserving on my money.

LastPass has finally admitted that they completely failed to do the one and only job they had...prevent customer password vaults from being stolen.
Since LastPass have completely screwed the pooch on that, I have noted a number of tech journalists say they can no longer recommend LastPass after this latest admission. So I'm in the market for a new password manager. I noticed that Bitwarden offers the ability to host the server locally. So was thinking of setting it up on my Synology NAS. After years of increasingly hardening the security on my NAS, I finally took the last step of removing internet access to it a couple of years ago and only make it available to my LAN. Does Bitwarden keep an encrypted copy of my password vault on the local device (phone, PC, etc) and just syncs to the server-hosted vault? Or are my passwords only kept on the server and retrieved on demand to the requesting device? Would my NAS only being available via LAN going to make Bitwarden non-functional? If it could only sync vaults between device & server when both devices are on the LAN, then that would be perfectly acceptable. |

You should be able to use it like that. You could also set up a VPN to your home network from your phone. I have my bitwarden exposed to the Internet but having a VPN into your home network is also useful for keeping your traffic safe when you're on any random wifi without having to worry if it's secure/safe (even though for the most part you won't run into security threats on random wifi you run into). |

So VPN to home would be an option if I needed to immediately sync the database with the server if I were remote. But that would also be a rare event. In fact, I can't think of a time whwre that immediate sync would have been important. As long as it would sync when I get home and am on my LAN, then that would be ideal for me. |
