So reviews of the new base RWD Taycan are starting to roll out and the general consensus is that this is the trim to get, not just because it's not overpriced like the high trim models.

I don't get these electric cars. If the engine output can change with different batteries or drive modes, why can't you select the power output on the fly? I'd pick the lightest batteries and the highest output since I only need to commute 5 miles round trip.

OTOH it's still a Porsche so you're going to drive it for fun on weekends somewhere I'd bet, if you only use it for a boring 10 mile round trip commuter drive, what's the point in spending that much? Might as well get something appropriately boring like the upcoming Hyundai Ioniq 5?

When I was a kid I had some pretty serious asphalt RC race cars. Depending on the track you could swap higher power electric motors in to go faster on the straights. If the Porsche already has the "bigger motor" which is limited from the factory based on batteries you just need some software to unlock it to full power. |

The Taycan is just way, WAY too big for what it is... The back seats aren't even that roomy for such a huge car.

To select more or less power adjust how far you depress the throttle on the fly

The RWD Taycan looks impressive, but with 6 months of snow/winter I think that AWD would still be in my future. |

I like that Cross Turismo a lot. Very cool looking. It would be nice to see a 3/4 size one with a hybrid power option. That really is the practical option and the option for those (me) who have no problem lighting hydrocarbons on fire but won't put up with more than 5 minutes to fully fuel the thing.

This would be a suitable replacement for our E63 and X3. Wife would gladly drive it. Wants the jacked up version. I would slum it in the 4 door Wrangler as my winter beater, and wait for a used Defender to show up (if they are somewhat reliable ) Quote:

I'm a fan of their wagons - It'll likely be what I pick up if/when I have a need for a functional rear seat again. My local has several different trim Taycan's sitting on the lot - I think I'll take one out for a spin next time I'm over that way and see whats up

You should definitely do a test drive and see if the whole set up and driving feel is for you.

So after some reading, the base Taycan 4 and 4s share same hardware but different software tunes, same as the Turbo and Turbo S trims.
Now I'm wondering what kind of aftermarket software tunes will be developed in the near future. |

Ya, I definitely will. Realistically, once the Turbo is paid I wouldn't mind easing that off daily duty and grab a used 5 series for 20 something grand. They are super cheap lightly used and such good/comfortable dailys

So in a relative fit of spontaneity, I sold my 911 to a local car broker earlier this week:
Bye bye Turbo, it was fun. And today I put a deposit down for a build order for a Cross Turismo 4S: According to the sales guy I worked with, the build won't start til mid May and probably won't ship out from Germany til early June. However once it gets to the port of San Diego, nobody knows how long it'll be stuck at Port until it gets the CARB stamp of approval (especially ridiculous since it's an EV) So now... the long waiting game Last edited by edkwon; 03-12-2021 at 07:29 PM. |

Thanks, I realized this wk that I'm over my sports coupe phase (for now) after the last 5 years and ready to get back into a fast, comfy 4 door.
Also I had equity in the 911 and when I sold it I was $18k over my lease payoff quote so it's all going into the deposit and down payment for the new car. Also I'm glad I didn't do this years maintenance service on the 911 yet before selling, and it's going to be nice 5-6 months free of payments and insurance costs until the TCT is delivered. |

What I find that I really miss is a manual transmission, despite the PDK being AWESOME. When I still had my 04 STi I would sometimes take it to work just to be able to row gears. Was looking at the maintenance schedule on the Taycans, not much to do other than cabin air filter and brake fluid changes The price of used 911s is impressive, going up. Not complaining. I debated getting a 997 C4S manual, but was told it would be cheaper to get my RX-7 on the road again. I hope it is, hahahahaha |
