The one in the manual basically shows the whole middle of the windshield as a no-go zone.

I have the dashcam mounted right above the rear view mirror in my wife's Forester. I haven't had a radar detector in years so I can't comment on that.

Also, if you need to get the windshield replaced at any point, take it to a dealer. The Eyesight has to be re-calibrated after a new windshield is put in.

The Ascent's interior is styled a little more and has some more colorful coated leather options, but the fit & finish still falls behind the Honda. Subaru is gluing the cargo floor carpet to the back of the seat backs and using the cheapest, flimsiest low level trim pieces just like they did in my old Crosstrek. It looks fine when new, but got torn up by my dog and child.

If having a better interior was a priority, though, Subaru certainly wouldn't be in the running. The Ascent's interior is fine for the price point. Honda's interior have been on an upward trend in recent years, so I'm wondering if you've been in a Honda recently.

That said, I wouldn't consider any vehicle with the (FWD-based) ZF-9 speed (like the Pilot) unless my only other option was a belt-style CVT.

Toyotas are always massively overpriced for what you get. The interior on the new Sienna is so bad that it completely negates the attractiveness of the fuel mileage of the hybrid in my eyes... but the new Highlander's interior is very nice, so I'm not sure what you're referring to.
We test drove a few Highlanders earlier this year. They are nice on the inside. Did not test a Pilot.

We bought a warranty for the electronics on the 2019 Edge ST. It's been in the shop more for electronics than my 2017 Jetta.

Pic of the rental Outback we had in Florida. It was gutless. Also, it was brand new. It had 700 miles on it when we picked it up. We put about 200 miles on it in the week we had it. It was smooth, had plenty of room for us and aside from the CVT, it wasn't a bad car (Well the tires were pretty horrible, but on par with a commuter car. As an "enthusiast", they left something to be desired.

We have a CR-V in the family and safelite was able to recalibrate stuff after glass replacement. Probably able to do it for Eyesight too?

Ironically we just bought a radar detector this month as we're on the highway between CA and AZ fairly regularly now. For daily use I wouldn't bother IMHO.

I guess on the Eyesight, does it throw an error of some sort of something unexpected is in the field of view?

I think if something is there, and that goes for tint, mist, dirt etc, it 'degrades effectiveness' or something. Eyesight will turn off features and alert you if it get blinded by the sun or fog, it is a visual system as opposed to radar.

Thank. I care more about it than the wife. I insisted whatever we got had to have intelligent cruise control of some sort. That's the only feature I really care about.

Yes, Safelite can do it. They replaced the windshield in my Forester and recalibrated eyesight. I watched them do it.

Hmm it was probably a load of bull then by the dealer. I didn't care because in MA windshield coverage is included in comprehensive so there was no oop cost to me si where it got done really didn't matter.

This has nothing to do with the dealers finance guy. This was done through insurance. I called my agent to ask about getting my windshield replaced. He said I could take it anywhere but then saw I had a Subaru with eyesight and checked to see who could replace the windshield. I don't know if he called the dealership or not but he recommended I bring it to them so Eyesight could be re-calibrated at the same time.

The finance guy, at every dealership, hates me.

The last new car purchase was my son 2018 Honda Civic. The only thing my kid really want was a particular color so went went to a couple dealerships that had the color he wanted, in ex trim at least because I wanted that for him. Then the kiddo made the decision that he wanted sedan, not hatch, great let’s find one. Local dealership had one listed at $21,500. We go, don’t even need to test drive because he’d already driven a couple, find the one listed on there website. Looked at window sticker and this car that is advertised at 21.5 is listed on their lot for $25........add on crap.

I tell the sales person I am prepared to pay exactly what the listed price on their website is.......I’ll have to see my manager......I explain, it’s on your website, same dealer stock number.....

30 minutes later we are in the finance office and they are trying to up sell all the crap. I stop the nice lady after just a second and let her know that I’ll be buying none of it, not one thing. She was not so happy.

you really want to piss off the finance guy, pull out your checkbook to pay cash (or credit card).

I would have but wanted to help the boy build credit the American way, let dad pay for it.

On that purchase Honda had 2.9 for 36 months or something so we financed with them. 16 months later we were tired of the payment so we paid the car off. My son got mad at me because his credit score dropped at I paid the car off.....

I got 0% on the Ascent and the finance guy encouraged me to put $3k of the down payment on a credit card. Yes I bought the warranty but I didn't pay full price...am I missing something?

Sorry to head about your wagon. Nice choice on the Ascent. Interested to know your feedback after you've had it a while. I've read some mixed reviews on them.

0% is great, and I'm not saying you shouldn't finance your car, you should, with few exception, especially with a new car, and especially at 0%.

that being said, dealers get paid by whatever bank when you do your financing through them, that's the only reason I say they'll be unhappy when you pay the car in full with 'cash'.

if, for some reason, you do intend on paying cash, the finance department is the appropriate time to disclose that, never before because you won't get as big of discounts because they are counting on the money they make off you financing your car.

anyway, people were talking about the finance guy hating them at a dealership, whipping out the checkbook to pay full cash for the vehicle is the best way to piss that person off.

The finance person at a Honda dealer pissed me off years back and only offered me a crap rate so I came back in a couple days with a check from my credit union. I only put up with it because it was hard to find the CR-Z I was looking for.

Honda Pilot's AWD is actually one of the best in the segment, it uses a version of SH-AWD has a torque vectoring rear differential.

Unfortunately the wife didn't want an MDX either. Explorer with the 3.0 would have been ok too!

I have VTM-4 in my Ridgeline. Great system that can (mostly) lock up 3 wheels with the push of a button. The i-VTM4 on all the newer ones is even better. It's still not overdriven on the rear axle like the SH-AWD... but it's basically the same type of system as the GKN Twinster in the Focus RS, et al.

Subaru's CVT + Active AWD, on the other hand..
