15" vs 16" wheels for 2011 WRX
I have a 2011 WRX that i bought in October with the intention of moding it into an overlanding car (like this), mainly for some of the rough gravel/dirt roads to trailheads in CO (so not true overlanding per say). I've already put a 2" LP adventure lift kit and skid plates on it. Now that we're coming out of winter in Colorado, its time to implement the next step of the plan, which is wheels and tires.
I originally was hoping to find some used 15" wheels, but have not had much luck in that since they have to be rally wheels to fit over the brakes. I could just buy 15" wheels new (ie. MR501 VT), but they'd be $600 more than buying a set of 16" steelies. So the main question is what does a 15" rim get me that a 16" wouldn't? Is the extra inch of tire sidewall worth $600 dollars when I'm not looking to do any rally racing or serious offroading? Are 15" rally rims stronger than a 16" steel wheel, or is the weight the primary difference (ignoring the change in tire selection)? Any other factors I should be considering?

You may need Small Brake Kit (opposite of Big Break Kit) if you are dead set on 15” wheels.
