Thumbs up Mach V Motorsports Trunk Strap vs Perrin Trunk Handle

Trunk handle vs trunk strap; which one is better?

Installed in the trunk of a 2019 WRX base.

Items being reviewed:

Perrin Trunk Handle: (Manufacter's product link)

Pros:
+ rigid plastic held in place by a hex-head bolt (will probably last longer than the car)
+ can be mounted to any one of the pop clip holes that hold the trunk liner in place
+ red in color for easy spotting
+ a 2nd riv-nut is included if you want to mount it in a different location

Cons:
- needs a special sized drill bit to enlarge the hole to insert a riv-nut
- need to drill into metal trunk; possibly removing some paint in the process
- uses a riv-nut, that needs to be compressed to secure in place
- riv-nut cannot be removed once installed and a special screw is included to go into the riv-nut if you move/remove the handle

Mach V Motorsports Trunk Strap: (Manufacter's product link)

Pros:
+ simple two clip install
+ no drill bit or drilling required (my favorite part)
+ no wrenching down a riv-nut and wondering if it you are wiggling it too much during installation (my 2nd favorite part)
+ easily removed if you want to take it out/put in another car (Subaru w/a trunk)
+ offers a larger area to grab

Cons:
- slightly more expensive than the Perrin handle (but not forced to buy drill bit)
- fewer places to locate the strap as it requires two holes for mounting
- may have to drill hole to locate on right side of trunk (but not necessary if the left side is good for you)

In the end, I really like the (Mach V Motorsports) trunk strap, mainly because of the no drilling required for installation and no riv-nuts. I wish I had known about the strap sooner. Yes, the strap loses out on some versatility/flexibility, but I will gladly look past that for the ease of which it can be installed (and removed, like it was never there).

Is the Perrin handle more versatile, yes. The Perrin handle can be mounted in one of 4 places (for best grip) in the WRX trunk (and maybe just as many places in the BRZ/86). The real hang up for me on the Perrin handle is the drilling and riv-nuts. I hate riv-nuts with a passion and even after doing the handle, I still do not like them.

Price wise, the two items are almost the same (within 10-15%) of each other.

Both items are good...but for me, I like the trunk strap more. YMMV.
