Question 2019 WRX Radio Firmware Upgrade

I everyone. I have done my best to research this on my own but can't seem to solve the problem.

I have a 2019 WRX base model (without nav). I am having the common problem of my radio presets not staying saved.
I want to upgrade the firmware to see if that solves the problem.
My current firmware is the original Rel4.18.11.50.
I do not have the option in General Settings to connect to Wifi so updating over the air is not an option.
I downloaded the updated firmware Rel_UA.20.38.70 and extracted it to a USB drive. I installed the USB drive in the car and started it up.
The infotainment system then hung on a black screen for 30-45 seconds before starting up. I thought that maybe it updated but when I checked the System Information it still said the firmware version was Rel4.18.11.50.

Can I solve this issue on my own or do I have to take it to the dealership?

(I was using this thread for reference https://www.subaruoutback.org/thread...3-2020.527722/)

Did you format the drive before installing the extracted file?
All you can do is try again. Many times it would not take the first time. I have had to try 3 times on some cars. Make sure you have the engine running or a battery maintainer connected - low voltage can cause issues.

I use to hate those radio issues - really put a damper on more important work a tech does like engine repair, transmission repair, electrical problems NOT caused by some snot nosed coder that won't verify his code. One reason I quit the dealer. I started out in car stereo in 1978 - I didn't want to retire fixing friggin' radios.

Good luck - hope you don't get the black screen of death...
