Default McLeod Street Tuner Series Stage 1 Clutch

2011 WRX Hatchback, 73k miles.

Second stock clutch went out. 45k for the first owner, 73k for me (whoops). Decided to upgrade the clutch so that I could launch the car A. without hurting the drivetrain, and B. without slipping the clutch so much.

I went a completely unreviewed clutch with no confirmed fitment on the my year of WRX, but decided I’d take a leap of faith.

I hated it for the first 1500 miles. It was so grabby, rough, springy, chattery, and just annoying to drive. Part of that was certainly me getting used to such a different clutch, but I had other people drive it, and they said it was annoying too.

Then, after launching it a couple times and teaching my girlfriend how to drive stick on it, it finally smoothed out.

It’s still grabby, but it’s super fun now. It’s smooth and slip-able for stop and go city traffic and getting up hills (I live in San Francisco), and changing gears is so fun. Taking off is even more fun. To all my fellow WRX owners who want to launch with the “take off” method and not have their clutch slip, this a great setup that holds power extremely well.

At only $450 for the disc, pressure plate, throw out bearing, clutch fork, and guide tool, the McLeod is a steal.

How well has the clutch held up having been a few months?
