I’m running 255/50/18 on 8” wheels with +45 offset. Slight rubbing driver side front. Slight rubbing inner wheel well back but not too bad. Didn’t roll fenders and haven’t needed too.
Likely going to a 255/40/18 when I get new tires just to give a little more space and get closer to stock diameter. Steering controls feel pretty good though.

Hey guys need some advice.

I'm running 18x9 + 40 wheels and lowered on cusco coilovers with 245/40/18 tires

I want to get a decent amount of camber without having to roll guards. What are my options as I don't like the idea of rolling rear guards. I prefer to keep it all original if possible.

Currently it clears with -2.5 in rear camber & -2.0 camber at the front. No rub

I prefer to have it the less camber in the rear if possible -1.8 camber to eliminate under steer. Is there anyway to do this without rolling rears? Will lower profile tires work 245/35/18? or smaller width tire 235/40/18?

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Hey all looking at a set of Konig Rennform wheel 18x9 +38mm. It seems these will fit my 2012 wrx with possible minor fender rolling. Can anyone confirm? Thanks

I am hoping someone can help me solve an issue with our 2011 wrx.

We bought new wheels (18x9.5 +38) and tires (255 35 18). While this may not have been an optimal choice, it is what we have...

Issue: during hard turns out under load the rear tires scrape on the fender.

What are our options (other than changing wheels/tires)?

-Fender rolling? If so, any suggestion around Putnam, NY?
-Coilovers? Anything less expensive?

Thanks in advance!

Default Will it fit!?

Super late to this thread but that's typically how it goes I guess. I have a 2013 WRX sedan and am looking to get some new wheels and tires. The wheels I'm looking at are 18x9.5 +25, I saw your comment about going down in offset to compensate for rubbing would +25 offset be too little for a 9.5 wide wheel? Currently on stock suspension but looking to get some coilovers in the near future. Would I need to roll my fenders aswell once I get my coilovers on? Thanks in advance!

Again, it's not the WHEEL that interferes with the car, it's the TIRE. Without talking tire sizes, we can't really say. That said, and ideal tire size for a 9" wide wheel would be a 255 width. A 255/35R18 will probably require rear fender rolling. A 245/40R18 will probably not.

Coilovers do not change the amount the wheel moves or where it moves, so although the spring rates will usually be higher (meaning the suspension will compress less under most conditions), it will eventually compress all the way and if it rubbed before it will rub after. That would indicate fender rolling is the way to permanently solve your problem, assuming you don't want to put narrower tires and/or higher-offset wheels.

You are mis-understanding offset. +25 sticks out 20mm MORE than +45. An 18x9.5" +25 wheel is a terrible idea on a Subaru. Re-read the very first posts in this thread.

Hoping for some help. I've read through most of this, and checked Fitment Industries gallery, and I believe that I should be able to get the wheel/tire combo I'm looking at for my 2014 Hatch:

Enkei TS-5: 18x9.5 +45
Tires: 255 40 18

I know I'll need to get fenders rolled and am prepared to do so.

2 questions....

1) just wanted to get an opinion on if my understanding here is correct and that this wheel/tire combo will fit

2) Was planning on throwing Blizzaks on my stock wheels for a winter tire setup. Anyone see an issue there? If no, what size tire should I be looking for? I know a lot of people will size down the wheel an inch on a winter setup but hoping to avoid buying 2 sets of wheels if I dont need to!

You'll make life a lot easier on yourself if you do a 255/35R18, and not a 255/40R18, which is 1.2% taller than even the stock STI tire, and 2.8% taller than the stock 17" WRX tire.

I usually just do the OEM tire size for winter tires. In deep snow, a narrow tire will be better, but then you are suffering with the narrower tire all the other times. Plus a narrower tire leaves the edges of the wheel exposed.

Default Tires 235/50R17 on WRX 2011

I need help.
I have a WRX 2011 hatchback, I use the original wheels with 235/45/R17 tires.
I have problems in my garage, the car scrapes a little at the entrance, I was wondering if putting a 235/50/R17 tire could alleviate the problem. Would this measure raise the car's height a little in relation to the ground? Or would this tire profile (50) bring me fitting problems?

Thanks
Fred

I would not do that. You will get 1/2" of additional ground clearance, but the tire is a full 1" larger in diameter, so you are likely to have tire-to-fender liner interference problems. Plus your speedometer/odo will be off by 4%.

Hi guys will 18x9.5 +45 on a 245/40/18 tyre fit without rolling rear guards? If so how much rear camber will I need to run to clear? Lowered on coilovers.

Hey guys,

I can confirm the below sizes fit without rolling rear guards and lowered on coilover suspension.

SETUP 1

18x9+40 on 245/40/18 running -2.5 camber at rear to clear

SETUP 2

18x9.5 on 245/35/18 running -2.0 camber at rear

These sizes are probably the max width specs you can go any lower offsets you will need to roll rear guards.

Smile 2013 Gr Fitment Help

Hi Guys, tried to find it in this thread but I may have missed it and would really appreciate the advice.

What is the most aggressive fitment I can achieve without spacers and having to roll or pull my fenders?

Looking to get as flush as I can with a 2inch drop on 18" possibly 245 or 255s.
Was originally looking at at 18x10 +30 offset on 255s but was told that wouldn't work so super open to suggestions.

Thanks in advance

First off all, that question is too open-ended; there is no single answer. The position of the outer edge of your tire depends on tire width, tire aspect ratio, wheel width, and wheel offset. The narrower your tire, the further out you can push it before it runs into the fender. The wider the tire, the sooner it will run into the fender.

Secondly, there is enough information in this thread that you should be able to get a very good idea of what is going to work. Read it carefully. Read it again. Answers are here.

First time poster here but I've been reading this thread religiously and want someone to confirm my thoughts before I take the leap. (Everything I currently have is stock except for wheels/tyres).

Was planning on getting rpf1s 18x8.5 +40 and wrapping them in Michelin PS4s 245/40/18. As far as I understand, these will fit without rubbing in the back (having that issue now with the wheel/tyre combo from the previous owner). Am I correct in thinking this?

Alternatively, I could get rpf1s 17x9 +45 and wrap them in Michelin PS4s (245/45/17?). Would these be suitable for no rubbing too?

I guess my main questions are:

Would either of these options rub at all? Need no modification? Which setup offers better response and driving experience to the driver (me) and looks more aggressive?

I apologise if I missed a similar question that's already been asked, I did a search and on top of that there are a lot of pages. I just really don't want rubbing

Either of those should fit fine without rubbing.

Sorry for reviving a dead thread Dan. Finally getting back to this, and was hoping to get your perspective. Based on what I've read I think I know the answer but for sake of clarity... do you envision that I'd need to roll fenders with the setup:

18x9.5x 45mm and a 255x35x18?

2014 Hatch. It looks like above you suggested maybe a 245/40/18 with a similar wheel setup would work too without rubbing. Just confirming that I'm reading correctly. Thanks!

Would 17” 8.5” wide +35 fit a 2014 hatch? Can’t get the wheels in a 9” or 9.5” wide cause the offset is still +35. And I don’t think they’d fit that way. I know they’re really close to oem wheels being 17” but I like how low the car is with 17s. Thank you!

That's 20mm less offset than the stock wheel, meaning those wheels will that much closer to the fender. You haven't talked about tires, but assuming something like a 245/40R17, that should be pretty flush to the fenders.

Great thread. Finally upgraded wheels on my daily13’wrx to Wedsport SA-10r in 18x8.5 with +45. Summer super sports at 245/40r18 are not nearly as wide as many go but the look and cornering is immediately appreciated, filling the fenders much better than stick with absolutely no modification needed. I know this thread was aimed at more extreme mods but was extremely helpful in my process.

The bigger bodywork allows for the fitment of wider wheels and tires. Wider tires look cool, and more importantly, they can help generate a lot more lateral grip. HOWEVER, a lot of the questions I get are asking about fitments that are either too low of an offset, too wide of a tire, or some combination of the two. Oh, and there's the bolt pattern problem, too.

First off, some basics: The WRX has a bolt pattern of 5x100 and a hub bore of 56.1mm. The stock wheel is a 17x8" +53 offset with a 235/45R17 tire. That tire size means the stock tire has a diameter of 25.3".

That 5x100 bolt pattern means factory STI wheels WILL NOT fit, since the STI uses a 5x114 bolt pattern.

Now, if you want to fit larger/wider wheels and tires, you'll want to try to keep the wheel offset as close as possible to stock. I'd generally try for an offset near the stock +53. +48 is very common. Depending on how wide the wheels and tires are, though, the offset will have to go lower, or the tire may bump into the strut in the front.

From experience, a 9.5" wide wheel will work at around +40 (give or take a couple of mm). The lower offset allows decent tire clearance on the inside. Steering feel is slightly worse from the lower offset, but it's not terrible. A 265/35R18 tire happens to be within 0.1% of the stock size, and that fits pretty well. (You may have to do minor fender rolling at the back if the car is lowered. It depends on the tire...not all 265/35R18 are created equal.)

Here's an example of this fitment:

18x9.5 +38 Rota Option, 265/35R18 Michelin Pilot A/S

The car above is lowered on Epic Engineering springs. We rolled the rear fenders.

18x9.5 +40 Rota D-Force, 265/35R18 Kumho V700

That's our shop car above. Rear fenders rolled, lowered on Cusco coilovers.

If you still want more meat under the car, you can run a 275 width. We've done several cars with 275/35R18. That's a tight squeeze if the car is lowered. Rolling is definitely required in back.

18x9.5 +40 Rota D-Force, 275/35R18 Dunlop Direzza Z-1 Star Spec

The gray car has Swift lowering springs.

Our shop car with Rays G-Games 99B 19x9.5 +40, Cooper 2XS 275/30R19.

We have not yet tried 285/35R18, for a couple of reasons. One is that the tire is 2.1% larger than the stock 2011-2014 WRX tire, slightly over our 2% rule of thumb in terms of variance from stock. The other reason is that since the diameter grows along with the width, the clearance problem will get worse. I think that tire would rub at all four corners with any amount of lowering or suspension compression.

I realize I've used some STI cars as examples above, but the WRX bodywork is identical, so for our purposes these are still useful comparisons.

If you want absolutely NO fitment problems, go with a smaller tire, like a 255/35R18. Given an offset between about +40 to +48, there should be no rubbing, even when mildly lowered. Stock STI tires, which are 245/40R18, are also an easy fit.

I mentioned rolling the rear fenders. Customers often ask me about rolling the fronts. They usually do not need to be rolled, but even if you wanted to there's almost no lip up there to roll, and what lip is there incorporates clips that secure the fender liner to the fender. Get rid of those clips and your fender liner is going to have to go. We suggest retaining your fender liners. They keep road debris and moisture out of your car's inner bodywork.

Note that the bigger tires may rub bit of the rear bumper cover. We trimmed that back on some of the cars with 275/35R18 tires.

I see some people with the widebody cars running lower offsets, sometimes much lower, like +30 or +25. I DO NOT recommend doing this. Sure, it looks kind of cool (if that's your thing), but generally you are going to have to go with a SMALLER tire size to alleviate fender contact problems. What's the point of having big wide wheels if your contact patch is the same as stock? Secondly, as the offset gets lower your wheel centerline is getting farther and farther away from the axis of your steering. The steering feel gets messed up -- to me it feels vague and it tends to want to steer left and right on acceleration or braking, due to the wheel trying to pivot around the steering axis. This effect gets worse with lowering.

So, that's my experiences with stuffing big wheels and tires onto the 2011+ WRX. I hope this provides some help when you are shopping for wheels and tires.

Hello all! Trying to decide between 2 sizes of wheels.
2009 STi Hatch
1: 18x8.5 +35 with a 245 40R tire

2: 18x9.5 +30 with a 265 40 or 35R tire

I would rather not cut my fenders but i don't mind rolling them. I have done measuring and the 9.5" wheel looks like it would be close but I see some online running that size without issue. Also something I am learning about is how much the offset affects the wheel bearing. Any advice or direction is welcomed.
Thanks!

Default Sorry in advance

I'm getting so pissed off trying to navigate this right now so before I throw more parts at this I need to know if someone can help with a knock I've been having for way too long or if someone can link me a good thread for this question. I have a 2011 wrx and the knock only occurs when I'm driving forward, accelerating or coasting doesn't matter, if there's rough spots in the road it sounds like my ball joint or sway link is knocking. I've replaced both of them though, as well as the wheel bearing and brake calipers because it will stop knocking when I brake or go in reverse. With the window rolled down near a building it sounds like there's a loose nut about to rattle off. But sounds nothing like that inside windows up. Doesn't matter if the wheel goes up or down it sounds like a racket over stones. No affect to steering and handling that I can see. The strut bearing looks brand new, I'm guessing engine mounts or the strut itself but I feel like I would notice an engine mount more. Though it likes to shutter when it's cold and I set off from a dead stop so maybe but it doesn't make that sound then and why would it sound so different outside the car. springs are fine I think and the strut still works but I'm about to go insane if I leave the radio off and I don't like always driving with it on but I cannot stand it. Again sorry for this question here, just found the most recent I could
