Default Prodrive P25

Prodrive (Subaru's partner in WRC, "official tuner" in the UK for some models and projects like the Isle of Man and Nurburgring project cars) just announced the P25 project.

The only information provided is an image and the phrase "An icon redefined, this is P25. 25/05/22"

This could be a type of "restomod" on the 1st gen model, according to the picture, but will only know for sure in a few days. The 25 could indicate the 25 years since the launch of first WRC car in 1997.

PRODRIVE REDEFINES AN ICON WITH THE P25
25 years since the first Subaru Impreza World Rally Car (WRC) made its winning debut on the stages of the World Rally Championship, the Prodrive P25 recaptures the essence of that very Impreza, while taking inspiration from the 22B arguably the most iconic Impreza.
Modern technology ensures the P25 is more powerful, lighter and with better handling.
This time it will have a 2.5 litre flat four ***8216;boxer' engine producing in excess of 400 bhp, a six speed semi-automatic paddle-shift gearbox and, due to extensive use of carbon fibre, a lightweight chassis.
The P25 will be produced in a limited run of just 25 cars, all built at Prodrive's headquarters in Banbury, UK.
Peter Stevens, who styled the original Impreza WRC for Prodrive, has defined the design, while the engineering of the car has been overseen by Prodrive technical director, David Lapworth, who was responsible for the original Impreza WRC.
The P25 is the idea of Prodrive chairman, David Richards. He said: "The original 22B Impreza is considered the most iconic of Subarus and highly sought after. We wanted to enhance everything that made that car so special by applying the very latest technology to create our own modern interpretation of a car that's established a place in motoring history."
The Prodrive P25 will make its debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in June. Prodrive is now taking expressions of interest and the first of the 25 cars will be delivered to customers later this year.

Kind of depressing they don't even mention the P1. The car they made and on which they put their name. A name that directly ties to the name of this promotion. The 22B was a limited run circus freak from Japan while the P1 was a usable car.

Maybe this makes sense after all...

are they building a car from the ground up? Or did they just buy a bunch of old 22b's and are going to modify them? Pretty confused at what their intent is here...

they've hired Bucky Lasek to go and find 25, 2 door RS, engine swap, wide body kit, and some suspension mods will be done.

Based on the press releases (not just the one in the earlier post, I saw a different one) where they referenced the P1, 22B, WRC competition car, and the sketch, I took that as confirming this will be a coupe only.

The semi-automatic paddle shift would be very different from a CVT. If it's like the gearbox they introduced into their WRC car in 1999 or 2000 and used it until 2008, it is basically more of a manual that is clutch-less instead of an automatic or CVT.

Makes the most sense if Prodrive just buys up whichever decent condition coupe bodies they can find. Hell, they have the ability to restore beat up rally cars they used to run and GT endurance cars they currently run, so the bodies could probably even be in less than ideal conditions. Wouldn't imagine they would use what few 22Bs for this when they are already worth $300,000 and rising. I don't know if the British got the coupes in the base model like we did, or if they only got them as the Type-R model of the WRX STI.

Except for the P1, I don't think UK got any other coupé. WRC cars were sourced from Japan and transformed from RHD to LHD, so my guess is that these will probably get the same treatment. Most of the restomods out there are based on standard used chassis, most likely these will follow the same route.

Prodrive is smart. They are taking advantage of the fact that there is no STI. I imagine a 22b bodied modern tech rally car for the streets...400hp, paddle shifting lightweight rocket that will cost sh**loads!!
