'08 STi Hatch. Where to start with refreshing/replacing bushings?
Wasn't sure where to put this...
I've had this car for about 5 years now and have just over 80K on it. I know rubber tends to break down over time and the car is almost 15yrs old. Suspension is all stock with the exception of whiteline F/R sways and kartboy endlinks. Has COBB short shift kit. I'm noticing more "movement" when shifting gears. Not grinding or missing gears, just seems like there is a bit more harshness with some shifts. The shifter itself is fine, I'm just thinking about the trans bushing. Considering going with the Group N trans mount to stiffen things up. https://www.importimageracing.com/pr...-wrx-2008-2021 I'm looking at doing a little at a time and thinking this would be a good starting point. Engine mounts next? What other bushings are prone to wear in the transmission area? I'll then be moving to suspension. Still has stock springs and struts. What bushings can be readily replaced without the need for a press?

If you have the time and patience to install one mod at a time, then that's a good plan. There's a stiffer Group N 6MT trans mount that I think Rallysport Direct also sells. I think it would be best to go with that one instead but nothing wrong with the USDM Group N one.
I believe the GR also has crossmember bushings, that's something worth doing along with the trans mount since you'll have to remove a part of the crossmember to replace the trans mount. There's also Group N version of the engine mounts but that really depends on your tolerance for NVH. I used to not care in my 20s; now I do in my 30s. Unfortunately, all bushings will require some sort of pressing in order to swap them out. There are some suspension arms like the rear toe arm and rear control arm that may be cheap enough that you can just replace with new. There's aftermarket poly inserts, I believe 3 different sets, that can be inserted into the voids of the rear diff mount and rear subframe to help "stiffen" up these parts. Good luck with all of this. It's kind of fun if you have the time and patience. |

Yes, but for the crossmember bushings, I would go with Kartboy brand instead. Nothing wrong with Whiteline but Kartboy is one of the OG companies in the Subaru community. Also cheaper, I think.

I saw the Kartboy's but it has them listed for only the 2002-2007 MY.
https://www.rallysportdirect.com/par...mount-bushings *edit Kartboy has the bushings on their website specific for the '08-'14 STi. Wonder if they are the same part number? https://www.kartboy.com/collections/...ushings-subaru |

I'd send Tom an e-mail via his website.

Did the Group N trans mount and whiteline shifter bushings.

Not sure if the Cobb kit came with both front and rear bushings but I'll assume it does. The shift linkage is also worth looking into. TIC the OGs with these bushings but Delta Motorwerks has the original solid linkage with or without bearings. Enjoy!
