Horsepower for Rally, Road Racing
I am looking to set my bugeye up for weekend warrior rally and road races. I know that huge hp numbers arent needed and right now I am considering what turbo to get. Looking through the Turbonetics catalog and there are so many choices. Trying to find something that spools quick but carries through a decent rpm range seems tricky but I know there is someone here that can clear the fog away. Thank you in advance for any input you can give me.

We need to know your hp goal, displacement, desired power band, budget, if you want to go rotated or stock location, E85 or pump gas, fmic or tmic etc. There are SO many turbos and configurations that asking for turbo recommendations without telling us more info is going to leave you more confused. |

I'm going to ask from the racer's perspective. What class do you plan to compete in and what restrictions (or allowances) does the class allow. I used to bring rule books with me when shopping for a new car. I ran many years in showroom stock class where tires, shocks and brake fluid were about all that mattered and kept me legal in class.
As I upped classes in the clubs I ran in, safety requirements also upped. My last racecar was in prepared, so I had to wear a full fire suit, have a window net and full roll cage and dated 4 point harness at a minimum. By that point, I was only instructing and having fun with a very light car (cheaper on brakes and tires) as the car was a NA 4 cylinder, which is a class, so a 944 or Alfa GTV4 or TVR were also in class....and way faster. Anyways....I'm just wondering what your goals are. |

And you are trying to use one car for divergent races which is not smart. Rally cares more about differential and suspension selection than power and any rally moves in this fashion will be a detriment to your road races ideas. You can often have a street/strip or a street/show car, but you cannot combine rally with anything unless yours is a farm use only car! And if you think turbos are confusing, those are child's play compared to differentials.
