Exhaust leak. Either blown out gasket at manifold to head (look for missing nuts/black streaks) or a crack. Most likely a crack in the flex joint between left manifold and catalyst (pleated part in image below) this is the most common cause. It is hidden by the heat shield. You get a free catalytic converter when you buy the exhaust manifold!

Worst result it will start causing a rich condition due to air diluting exhaust before the A/F sensor. Eventually trip fuel trim codes as the crack worsens/more air infiltrates.

I can't imagine I caused the crack but that is all I can think of, besides salt/rusting over time causing the issue.

My heat shields are still intact, albeit missing a lot of bolts that hold it together which ive held together with hose clamps (you can see some in the video). I am dreading having to remove the heat shields, I can definitely check each gasket at least. I'll see what else I can do when I get under again. I'll keep this updated. Thanks!
If it is a crack in the exhaust you didn't cause it. It is from stress and heat - someone cut corners in either engineering the exhaust or manufacturing. This is a VERY common problem with this particular layout manifold/catalyst Subaru used for many years.
