Played yesterday as a 4th person filler because someone couldn't make it due to work.
Front 9 started out well, getting back to form. 5 over, with a double on 9 after a drive left me blocked out from a good shot, and chipping out didn't get me out all the way, still blocked. So, Front with a 41. Felt good, everything working for the most part. (Still have an issue clearing my hands on the drive, but that's being worked on) The back 9? Look up the term "wheels off the bus" in Urbandictionary and you'll see my pic. LOL. That's all I'll say about that. (Almost everything off the tee went right, and again, that's all in my clearing my hands in time, I'm getting stuck and I know how to fix). Looking forward to this weekend. --kC

12 over (68) on the exec today for my lowest round there. Missed multiple birdie putts by inches but playing some newer balls that are a bit firmer and feel better than the Titleist DT TruFeels. Wilson F.L.I's. I watched a review on them and at only $9.99/doz on Amazon I had to try them. I even made my first putt on the Puttout (in the ramp hole thing) with one from 6 feet. Very good feel all around, off the tee, chipping and putting. The softer balls are nice, but don't play as crisp as a firmer ball around the green. I practice with some older Prov V1s but not ready to drop that much money since I usually lose 1-2 per round. I played the same ball for the entire round and it had pretty minimal wear. Very good spin too. I nailed a couple greens and the ball backspun or stopped a foot from the pitch mark. I even hit the pin from 120 yards.

When the pro-v's were all the rage still, I only played them when competing and, used top flite spin types the rest of the time.
I'll bet those wilson balls are good. I've hit some nice Wilsons. |

I thought I was just going to use them as practice/spare balls but they just feel better and I'm going to stick with them. Man, the swing was feeling good. My fade has turned to a slight pull on my longer irons but is very straight with my short irons through 7 iron.

*sensible chuckle
Played Friday and again on Sunday. 84 with 1 bird and 82 with 2 birds. Hit a lot of good shots, and a lot of rusty shots sprinkled in here and there. Getting off the tee is much improved. Planning on having a marathon day at my brother's country club (probably play 54 holes; they have 3 9's). Then my wife and I are gonna play Thu/Fri before July 4th. She's never played an actual round before, so we're going to an easy course. I watched a lot of the Harbour Town golf tournament. The broadcast was much better. I like watching the golf without spectators. Plenty of F-bombs flying! |

Played Sunday at Country Club of New England. 47/42... with 2 balls lost on the 9th in hazards (2 different ones).
My issue is when I'm within 140-150 yds. Just can't get good enough contact on the ball and flub shots or am short/left/right of the green. I think I had 3-4 GIRs, but hit 12 fairways (on a tight course). My big miss is a pull with my 9i/PW/GW. I have a tendency to just come outside in and it goes... straight left. If I can get that working, I know my HC will drop like a rock because once I'm on the green, I rarely 3 putt unless I'm 30-40 feet away and can't get a good read. --kC |

I don't have a good feeling about the 2pm press conference by the PGA today...everything in Hilton Head last week was business as usual by everyone vacationing there, so it's no wonder bad things were gonna come of it. And the PGA's "bubble" (which is as about as far from a bubble as it could be) is all sorts of leaky. Players/caddies/instructors were just "encouraged" to use the same hotel, and to not go out to eat, and there have been a lot of guys just flat out ignoring it.

My lesson last night went really well. Hitting my driver up to 235 with 250 roll out. Little to no fade with a lot of straight ones. A few fades. Playing full 18 on Friday with a couple of friends and fiancee's godfather. Should be fun regardless, but would love to break 90.

Going back to a 50* gap wedge with lower bounce than my current 52* and a 56* instead of 58*. See if it makes a difference. (Oh, and from Cally MD3s to the new SM8 Vokeys)

Another 10 over round at the longer, par 58 exec yesterday. It could have been single digits, but bladed two easy tee shots for some reason and they went long. Putting and chipping were on point. |

I really should get some new wedges. I'm still playing some rusty old Cleveland 588s in 52* GW, 56* SW & 60* LW. I think KC has the right idea going to 50* & 58*. My Cobra 3100I/H PW is 45*, so there's a bit of a gap between that and the 52*. Also, thinking to drop my 4H and put the 3i back in the bag.
Got another round at Marshall Canyon this Sunday. Hoping to do better than last round 2 weeks ago. Putting practice green was closed, hit the range for just over 5 minutes to warm up since my buddy was late and they weren't allowing check in until everyone was there. Started off ok with a couple pars, but couldn't get a putt to drop all day. Ended up shooting 48/48. |

League play on Thursday and Friday. 45 on Thursday, had an issue with just keeping drives straight. 4 balls lost on drives. Everything else worked well.
Played 9 more yesterday. 2 balls out on the 2nd hole (par 5) and scored a 7 on it. Finished with a 40. Todays game plan... keep balls playable. --kC |

I also lost 4 balls yesterday, but broke 90 (89) with a lot of pars and two birdies. Just have to keep it in play (two lost balls were second shots near a canyon edge) next time and not have any beers. I hoped to be better off the tee but managed a couple of blowup holes where I sliced off the tee, bladed out of the bunker and over the green. Really happy with that round since there was a tournament there in the morning and the white tees were moved back and the pins were in a lot of tough locations.

Tournament yesterday (Par 72 course) and I stuck to the game plan as well as I could. Went out with a 39 on the front 9 with 3 bogeys, but pretty solid ball striking scrambling. First few holes had a slight slice, but overall pretty much in play. Greens were fast, and being an old course, I already knew to never, ever, be above or beside the holes. Always play to the front and let it roll up. 3rd hole par 3, tee shot went wide right and was able to get up and down to save par. 4th hole, through the trees after hitting them on the dogleg. (one of the guys in the group eagled out from 176 yds - great sight to see). 9th hole par 5, I had no business hitting driver on a dog leg as I put it through it (at least it just trickled into the brush and could take an unplayable, but still trapped behind trees). Saved bogey on that hole. Back 9 had a couple double bogeys, on the 12th from the start of the rain and club slipping and ball going into water on the short par 3, and also on the 15th as I pulled (1st one of the day) into the trees on the drive on the par 5. Finished with a 42 coming back in. Overall 81... which could have been much lower, but happy with a low 80s round finally this year, and low net for the A division in the tourney, and also 41 stableford points, highest score of the Tourney. Oh, and also a closest to the pin on the 5th hole (sloping back to front AND right to left. Have a good weekend coming up with 3 18 hole rounds. 2 at nice private courses (Friday and Monday) and one of the better semi-privates in the area for the long weekend. One of the guys asked if I've gotten lessons. "Just watching TV". I can complete my turns, have a really good swing now, just not as accurate yet but it will come, and can do a whole turn (where I used to get stuck). Losing 18 lbs will do that. Oh, new wedges? Solid. I went to the range before my round and hit a small bucket with them. The 50* almost full swing is 100 yds. 1/4 swing is 50 yds (was putting them right at the signs on the range). And I did that a few times on the course and nestled them up close to the pin. That helped with the lower rounds. Had a chip in off the green with the 56 from the lip on the 11th. --kC Last edited by KC; 06-28-2020 at 07:05 AM. |

Hi everyone, new to the thread. The WAPCE obtained a hand-me down set of Acuity senior-flex clubs that I've screwed around with for a few years and now I'm ready to get into a more serious set--something around $400 for mostly complete set to get started. I'm not to the point of spending $1000+ on Titleist irons.
Anyway, been looking at the TourEdge Bazooka 370 and 470 sets. Again, just starting take my golf game a little more seriously. My goals are to become competitive (under/near 100), not necessarily win the longest-drive contest. Last edited by BigWrecKs; 06-30-2020 at 01:30 PM. |

If you are looking at TourEdge, I'd also look at the Wilson Ultra sets too. I think all of these are basically the same and come with bags too. Check out the Callaway Edge sets too. Or Callaway Strata. I think those and TopFlite are your best options for getting a playable full set. You also might find something on your local FB marketplace or Craiglist.
