The coverage has been abysmal. Someone at the event has said the players interact the most after they finish a hole, and walk to the next tees. Quite a bit of banter between them. So naturally NBC runs five minutes of commercials, then does interviews, other snippets, and misses it all. Just shut the hell up and let us hear the players talking.

I played a crappy exec today since it has a range. I was actually hitting greens and my long irons fairly well. Towards the end of the round, I figured out a basic issue with my grip and was hitting straigher and longer than I was all morning. I hope it wasn't a fluke but it felt great and I ended up better than bogey golf. Can't really count the score since the cups were raised but I was close to 10 over which for me felt great. My local course's range opens in a week or so and I may renew my JC Club and play my free b-day round.

Checks clock. 6:20PM. Started at 2PM. No caddies and no one pouring over the shots this, or that, or that, or the putt reads, etc.... While missing the good comments/banter (while commercials were happening), they played the game as intended.
Now going to extra holes of course, but 18 holes in 4:20. (heh). It shows they are their own worst enemy. --kC |

No reason they shouldn't have played in under 4 hours though.

They clearly showed them multiple times holding the players from hitting approach shots, until the 6 minutes of commercials were finished. The aerial cam would show the players, a NBC guy next to them would give them a signal it was ok to play, and within 30 seconds all four would hit their shots. They needed time to get their camera in position.
There was easily 30-40 minutes of delays from the fact this was a tv show. |

Pretty classless if you ask me.
But we obviously only care so much about the dead/infirmed/less fortunate anymore, so. Sorry to be a pooper. |

Huh? You know it was for charity and raised multiple millions of dollars? Unlike Nascar racing today...

Hey I can see not thinking the joke was classless. Maybe this whole thing hasn't effected you soo much but, think about the (soon to be) 100k families who are smaller now. I don't think many of them would have laughed.
Did I complain about the event? Also humor doesn't have to be classy but, I seem to remember seeing it as a tradition on a professional golf course. Maybe not an old one. (looking at Augusta) |

Oh!! Oops. Yeah I didn't even see the previous post or scroll up. Now I've put 2 and 2 together I understand your post.
That being said, yes it was in poor taste. Sorry you were offended and chose to disregard the fact that he even admitted it wasn't good timing. |

Yeah, if it hadn't been for all those people dying recently he could joke about them later?
Doesn't do much for me. It was the joke that was classeless as well as the timing. Now having said that it does seem like he instantly felt bad. Of course he shouldn't be crucified either but, the joke is plain classless. Think about how many survivors are going to spend the rest of their lives huffing and puffing (we worry) and this guy is joking about not driving a green. Don't quit your day job. |

Played both days this weekend. On Saturday, everything clicked. Shot -2, 70 at Grayhawk Talon. My new best.
I was playing ok on the first 6 but not really doing anything. I was +1 but it was pretty ho hum. Then I caught fire. Birdied 7, 9, 12, 14, and 15. After draining the 20 footer on 15, I was standing on the 16 tee realizing I’m suddenly -3 with 3 to play. On 16 I had 100 yards left to the flag. Hit a perfect low spinning wedge. It landed 3 feet in front of the pin, hit the stick, and ricocheted off the green, down a false front. I actually lipped out the chip coming back but it stopped 3-4 feet out and I missed the clean up... ugh... Also lipped out a birdie on 17. The **** break on 16 took a potential 3 to a 5 and kept me from my first round in the 60’s. |

Parker, while the comment may had been classless to you, and while this doesn't excuse it probably in your eyes, he's one of the young ones and I'm sure they forget he was wearing a hot mic. He was the more vocal out of all of them when talking about things other than golf or their game. He's got to learn to stay in the moment.
I do want you to understand something though... There are people, like myself, that while understanding the seriousness of issues and respecting them, will STILL joke, make jokes, etc... about them. It's how we are wired. Heck, raised. It's how quite a few of us cope. Laughter. Most of my family funerals, you'll hear people cracking jokes about the person vs being somber all the time. Why? It's a joke. It's not a true statement in how they feel. I can respect your side that you cope by lashing out against someone that offended you. But you also have to understand the other side, there are people like myself and others that cope by joking. It doesn't make us evil. It means most of us are simply coping, but differently than you may be. It's this simple lack of understanding that creates a lot of tension between serious people vs joking people. Serious people think there's a time and place for everything. "Now's not the time". Thing is... those that make jokes feel the same way. "Anytime is a good time." https://news.stanford.edu/news/2011/...or-080111.html https://www.verywellmind.com/maintai...-humor-3144888 --kC Last edited by KC; 05-18-2020 at 08:08 AM. |

Back on track and less on meh, played golf yesterday. Hit some great shots, and some **** shots, but overall it was a great round (not for scoring).
The course I played is one of the hardest (but prettiest) around here. All the lies are steep up or down, and some are compound (so not only is the lie on a hill, but you're hitting at odd angles off the hill). Had I been on my home course, I would have likely shot a few better. But it was a beautiful day and I wasn't at work. |

That was my entire round.

Played Saturday ... weather perfect. Played like crap ... bogie or double on every hole ... but I count it as one of my favorite rounds ever. It's good to be back

I played Saturday afternoon with my wife and son and brother-in-law and had a blast, despite playing like crap. Beautiful day, a few beers and good company. And like you SinC, didn't care how I played.
My son is 17 and rarely plays because he gets frustrated not hitting the ball well and not being consistent (welcome to golf, kid!). I gave him a few pre-round tips (again) and he struck the ball really well most of the round, especially off the tee. He shot a legit 104 from the ladies tees and now seems to have the bug to play more and get better. If he didn't 3 and 4 putt so many greens he would have been under 95. I played poorly because my back was bothering me, so I didn't play yesterday thinking I'd rest. Instead my wife put me to work planting a bunch of bushes and plants. YEah, that helped my back!? I'm playing in a 36 hole 2 man best ball tournament next weekend over the 4 days. |

I remember the first tee was uphill and to a blind right...with a deep marsh for the first 30 yards. I remember dreading how the rest of the course was going to look. |

I went on a golf trip with some buddies last fall and played a course down in Williamsburg that I had never played (opened when I still lived there). I quit after 12 holes. It was like they WANTED you to lose balls and rage out. So, I drank. |
