Suspension Continued...
Your article was very informative and has me educated on sway bars, end links, and what to expect. That said, now I have even more questions tying all this into a more complete suspension. I have an 08' STI hatch and its a street/daily driven car only with a stage 2 AMR kit on it. I want to keep the car neutral as you suggested thinking a 22/22mm front/rear sway bar set up with end links is the way to go. The next set of questions pertains to springs and struts.
With the sway bar set up chosen how do I go about choosing the right spring/strut set up that will compliment the sway bar set up? Thanks for the help, my suspension knowledge is limited to say the least! |

It says that 22mm front/24mm rear is only for 04-07. Is this not a possible setup for a 2013 WRX hatch?

Nice writeup, especially your take on which bar combos work for what.
As an added data point I snapped a brand W rear endlink in half. The thin bent ones not the super beef AL ones. Also the '02's have really weak rear mounting brackets, as you pointed out. I broke one of those too. Both ears where it mounts to the frame snapped clean off. A relatively cheap and easy upgrade is to replace the mounts with later model STi mounts. They're much beefier. This was only running a 22mm bar, BTW. |

Hey Geoff,
What sway would you recommend to replace a Hotchkis front competition bar? I ran into some problems with mine today, luckily I was not in a bad area of the road or driving too hard. I have the competition rear as well, I really am not too sure I want to replace the front with the same as what just broke. [IMG][/IMG] |

So my car makes up the .0000001% of most Subaru owners, I lifted my 06sti' kept the stock sways because they are perfect for where and how I drive, but the endlinks are the real problem, I've broken 2 sets of perrin's and now the Heavy Duty Rallitek's I bought are bending, and bad- I need something that is gonna hold my sways in place. I drive off road in a loose setting so I need endlinks that can handle abuse. Rallitek's never even got to see dirt.
Personally I might just have to make some from scratch from some stiff heavy metal I got around the shop, the lift isn't even done but the spring alone pushed the Rallitek's to a damn near breaking point. Any help would be welcome., ty man. |

Awesome Post man! I had no idea that sway bars could make such a big difference and I am pretty stoked about this.
I just got my Rex on friday and have been LOVING every minute of it. On the other hand I have the dreaded 08' Rex and as you must very well know, its a cushy sunuvub*tch. It's crazy fun to drive but it quite frankly scares me to turn fast on this thing. Granted I am changing out the crappy all seasonal tires for some stickier summer goodness ( I live in brazil, no snow). Thing is I am still learning how to drive it ( my last car was a 150hp FF ) but I was running it on 225 summer tires and back breaking H&R springs. The WRX has the original 205 all seasonals but I applied the same confidence first time I drove it and darn near crapped myself as the front leaned over and the back pivoted when I took my foot off the gas. Let's just say it was my first spirited driving WRX experience and I would like something a little more flat. Now Brazil isnt known for its great pavement and it is quite bumpy out here. I would certainly like to try out something more neutral though but not back breaking. Problem right now is that the stock suspension is just too darn soft and it leans over like an SUV. I love the REX but this 08' stock suspension just isn't working for me at all and it is quite frankly ruining a bit of the experience. It's such a confidence inspiring car until I turn hard you know? I just know the car can be SO much more than this. Help me Obiwan Kenobi! PS: I should add I won't be tracking the car or AutoXing and its an Daily Driver. Also...it doesn't have VDC for some reason..the button is just not there... |

What are your thoughts on the WRX and the STi Sway bars. (08+) I have a STi sedan and my buddy has Hatch WRX. are they the same. or is the STi slightly bigger. will they match over to give him a better stiffer ride then his stock wrx suspension.

Great post! I recently got a bugeye (after an incident with my 04...) and not I'm in the process of trying to figure out what suspension and sway bar combination to go with. I daily drive the car and love to autox. My last car the suspension was already done so now I have a stock car and trying to figure out how to do the suspension. This post helped a lot with the sway bars! Thank you!

Ride hight difference
I just recently installed some coilovers in my wrx and I've noticed that the left rear side is about a 1/4 inch lower than the right. Both coilovers are adjustable and they are at the same hight adjustment. Is it possible that the sway bar could be causing a difference in ride hight on each side by the amount of tension on it? A little help would be greatly appreciated

Test it.
Undo the end links. If the sway bar is causing the height diff, disconnecting the sway bar will eliminate its influence. The sway bar resists twisting, but if it's connected with the suspension evenly loaded, the ride height should remain level.

How do you feel about solid (Whiteline) verses hollow/tubular (Cobb) sway bars for a daily driven 2011 STi with BCBR 8k/10k spring rating coilovers? I have no idea which is better In terms of strength and performance.
Thanks Rafe |

Perrin endlinks and other bad ideas
They look nice, which is far far better than my experience with them.
They said they fit my '02 - They do not They said they would work with the vendor for a refund (Streetrays) - They did not Streetrays said they would refund my $ - They did not Streetrays then said they would give me store credit - They did not, then refused to talk to me and Perrin 6 mo and at least a dozen emails later Perrin offered to get me F-endlinks that I had to replace 6 mo ago to drive the car. I bought F&R. Looks nice, but no chance that I'm going near either again. |

Thanks for all the detail in this thread. Trying to decide on a rear sway bar and this helped narrow it down considerably.
