Default 2008 outback sohc ej253// super loud engine knock at idle speed

I have a 2008 outback that just had the clutch replaced. I bought the car used but I can tell that it has had some head work because it has a new head and head gasket on the passenger side.
My issue is that just suddenly there started to be a subtle engine knocking noise that was only present near idle speeds. Once you rev the engine past 1500 rpm the sound completely disappeared. The thing is, that only after a few more days the knock got SIGNIFICANTLY louder. The decibel level level probably near that of the horn.

I am looking on forums everywhere and can’t find any explanation for this knock.

Any ideas guys?

Ps I will submit a video once I figure out how to post it.

timing belt tensioner or bearings. check for glitter in the oil, or remove the timing belt cover and watch the tensioner as the engine runs.

Found the issue! It was the timing belt tensioner slapping the belt.

That beats the hell out of replacing bearings.

it's amazing how I watch one obscure youtube video talking about this timing belt tensioner noise and suddenly I'm seeing references to it on the forums everywhere.
