Question Anyone notice different WRX fogs for the 2004?

In the pictures I saw before the Detroit Auto Show, the front-end redesign had large foglights, but in the pics from the auto show, the WRX fogs are much smaller (and the bumper is different).

Anyone else notice this?

The ones you saw with the larger fog lights are most likely the Australian model which uses reflectors (I think that's the right word), whereas the 2004 US fog lights are projectors. I'm disappointed, I thought the reflectors and the area surrounding them looked much better than the new US look, but not much can be done about that.

What really sux, is that if my eyes are right we won't be able to get the STi fog covers on the wrx or bigger fogs without replacing the whole front bumper or with a gutsy hack with a chop saw. Maybe the whole fog area is just a cutout that is attached from the back, but looks molded to me.

Here is the japan / aussie version

And the US

Default Yep...

That red image is right out of the Japanese Impreza brochure. I know because I have a Japanese brochure on both the sedan and wagon. my understanding is the US-spec models get projector-beam fogs, if that means anything.

I'm sure a kit for the larger fogs will be available.

That is the one thing I dislike about the new car. I would have to say that Subaru wanted to give the US car a more mainstream/street image.

Gone is the Rally look and attitude of the old generation car. The visual effect of having contrasting rectangular headlights with round fogs as large in diameter as the headlights were tall. With both the car we have now and the restyled Japanese/Aussie version pictured above, the large size of the headlights relative to the fogs detracts from rally look of old.

Don't get me wrong, I think that red sedan above looks awesome. It has an aggressiveness like the old car (GC8), just more like its ready to eat up asphalt as opposed to gravel.

another thing i was thinking about, could it be becaues of a different bumper beam between us and japan version, and due to larger beam in us version, they cant fit the bigger fog lights?

just a tought i had in mind while reading this thread

The Japanese headlights are cooler once again!, Look they dont have the stupid orange crap for the markers/parking.

this was probably already noted, but i am so bored i had to type to stay awake.

Yep. If I was buying a WRX, the first thing I'd go is swap out those nasty driving lights for fogs.

I imagine that getting rid of the amber in the headlight cluster will be an easy and common mod.

Oh, but I do like the lack of fender reflectors. Their absense lends much cleaner lines...

Projectors should perform better, and they remind me of the almighty P1.

Wow, the red Impreza looks really nice.
They should give it bigger foglamps, like the ones on the Mazda Protege. The big foglamps on the Mazda looks really cool.

In Japan they'll want the smaller projectors and colored marker lights.
In the US many people will want the larger fogs and clear markers.

It's how modding works. People want what they don't have

I too like the larger fogs as they fit the bumper better.
I wasn't a big fan of the current bugeye fogs though. They seem too large and unfinished. I'm interested in the street performance of the WRX as this car (the one sold to the public) is not a dirt road setup. It's like SUV's that never see a dirt road but owners like to pretend they do.

The thing that I wanted to see was 17" wheels as standard as the rest of the world. It just looks better.
