Intercooler water spray - when to spray?
I've never had a turbo car before. The Sti comes with manual water spray. How do you know when to spray? I believe the EVO comes with auto/manual water spray.

The STi sprayer should be manual/auto as well (auto most likely linked to an intake temperature switch)
The time to use it in manual, is just before you anticipate hard acceleration, the intercooler is just a heat sink, the cooler it is, the more efficient it will work |

Should be? Well, according the specs and press release it's not. It's manual only.
When to give it a spray? Stop lights/signs in the summer. |

A good time would be right before your run at an autocross. Damn heat soak!

Does anyone know how long you can leave the spray on continously until a full tank of water will run out? I think I had heard 15 minutes, but that may have been for the APS water sprayer.
And another question: Do you have to be careful about using hard water in your sprayer? Will it leave deposits on the intercooler? -BrianK |

Save me using a spray bottle between heats.
I wonder what class it will be in AuotX, if it was a 2 litre theoretically should be in STX but with a 2.5 litre I'm not sure where it would fit in. Nigel. |

you cant leave it on.
The manual switch is just a push/instant release button. It gives a 5 second burst of water. I dont understand why they dont fit the auto option, its only a switch and relay. Ah well, you cant have everything. The manual is designed to allow you to give the car an extra 10 squirts once the auto level sensor has switched off its suppy. I leave mine in auto mode when driving hard and only use manual to give me those last few quirts. You use it whenever you are loading up the engine on boost to cool the intercooler down. Or when you have been sat stationary at lights and the intercooler is getting heat soak. |

yep, fitted as standard. I would think its gonna be a simple retro fit though. It didnt work at all when i bought the car, the idiot who owned it before me had the plugs in the wrong switches, manual was in auto and vice versa.
