No it won't, it'll run in a straight line past an Evo8 and STi.

Yippee! Drag racing.

well, here is the way I see it.
As someone has mentyioned many times before, for $5800 you can get the Vishu system with 350hp.

the thing is, the STI is a lot more than horsepower. HP gives you straight line, thats all.

Witht he STI you get better brakes, stiffer and better acting suspension, better differentials, bigger and stickers tires.

As any track or autocross racer will tell you, HP does not win races, handling and power do.

So it depends on what you mean? straight line, yeah, you could drop $7000 into a wrx and get a better performace, but on a track, backroads, handling, spidpad, brakiong, you woudl have to spend a ton more.
coilovers or sti suspension, $1500+
Brembo brakes $3500 f/r
DCCD $1600 + install
front LSD, $1000
Wheels and tires $2000
HP stage two, $5800

see where I am going with this?
Yes, a WRX with mods will be great, I have one right now, but it will not be the complete package the STI offers

So you can get front LSD, 6spd tranny, inverted struts, independent suspsension, DCCD, and 73hp into the WRX for $7k? I'm impressed!

Of course if you mean, "WRX + $7k can go in a straight line faster than STi" then I think you're correct

uhhh, I'd hope so.....

but having 300hp with a 6speed and everything else it comes with (like hids ect) with a warrantee would be pretty nice.

BTW, you can say the same about 2.5 RS with $5K mods to the WRX.

I'm gonna be soooo jellous when the STI comes out....damn

And the same thing was said 2 years ago of the 2.5 RS with the introduction of the WRX...

(And basically it's the root of much of the stigma of snootyness of many 2.5RS owners who pine for the 'good ol days')

If you feel you want to do it, then do it. There is no discussion needed. It's your car, do what you want. If you make it faster fine. But just 'talking about it' does nothing to making it faster.

If all you want is the fastest car you can get for 30k just buy a high mileage eclipse GSX for $2000 and put $28,000 in mods in the car. Trust me you will kill the STi, the EVO and a modded WRX. There is more to a car than just the numbers. Personally I can't afford a STi, so I am going to buy a totaled one and put the drivetrain in my RS.

In addition to what the others have said, there is one thing that an STi will have that no modded WRX can come close to for less than $10k.

Drivability.

300 HP on a AVCS 2.5 liter motor with a reasonably geared 2nd gear. Not only WAY more torque down low than any stock WRX engine with bolt ons could dream of, but a higher ratio 2nd gear.

Yes, the turbo will be larger than a stock WRX turbo, but not so much larger as to swamp the effect of AVCS and extra 25% displacement. Even the 2.0 + AVCS has a much wider torque band. the 2.5 + AVCS will have fantastic drivability that the WRX lacks to some extent.

How much power are you making? I'm trying to decide between the SR30 or SR40 so any help would be great!

Tell your crack dealer I said "Hi." The other posters have summed up the symmetry of the STi package: Power, brakes and suspension, plus other goodies like HIDs, etc.

And don't forget that the STi owner hasn't begun to mod yet. When he does, he'll light the modded WRX up like a Christmas tree. When tests of modded WRXes vs. STis are done, the STi always wins.

"There is no replacement for displacement"

2.5 vs me and my 2.0 will lose every time.

I personally hate the new STi, only because i dont and cant have one!

Oh how nice it would be to own a STi... Maybe in a couple years when it's time for me to get a new car. For right now I'm having fun with the WRX I have now . And in a couple years I'll be making more money and it'll be in my price range.
