[ January 7th of 2003 ]
In Japan the Subaru ' in presser STi which is announced in the October last year ' the North American model, was displayed in the Detroit show. The STi being thrown to the North American market this time being unprecedented, is introduced as the model which bears the Subaru image leader. Sale is the June beginning from 5 ends of the month, but price is undecided. 500 monthly sale goals.

Detroit Auto Show Report - Subaru Impreza STi lands in North America with 300 horsepower!

North America's version of Subaru's Impreza STi that was announced in Japan in October of last year in Japan was on exhibit at the Detroit Auto Show. This is the first time that the STi has been made available to the North American market, and it has been designated as the Subaru 'image-leader'.

Sales of the STi will begin in end-May/beg-June. Price is not yet decided. Monthly sales of the STi are estimated at 500 units per month.

The engine which has received much attention boasts a 2.5 liter engine putting out 300hp, more output than the JDM-spec 2.0L with 280hp.

According to a Subaru spokesman, the increased power is due to counter their main rival's recent release of the EVO which puts out 271hp. But now, Subaru has no rival.

Cheers-

Hmmm, 500 units per month? That comes out to more like 6000 per year. Maybe there will be a few more STi's to go around after all.

Since 18,000 WRX's were sold in 2002, an additional 6000 would make one in four as STi's. That isn't including the some 20,000 non WRX's sold last year, but 25% of the performance models is pretty good.
