Default So we're talking about 375-400 HP w/ mods

with 25% more displacement, better injectors, intake manifold....it doesn't take a rocket scientist to easily envision 350-400 HP with
not too exotic mods like exhaust, intake, aggressive maps and race gas.......welcome to the new generation. This car might be able to play with Z-06's if the understeer is correctable.

I'm still going with a stock WRX. With Vishnu stage 2 you can already have 350HP for about $5,800 installed and tuned. Plus he's got stage 3 almost ready (February 2003) which will produce 500HP on the stock tranny. http://www.vishnutuning.com/stage.htm

duuuuude! Imagine the new STi with just an ECUtek re-flash (lets hope SOA did not change the ECU encryption/code structure), intake and exhaust, I am pretty sure the STI will gain @ least 70HP. SAFE!!!

Good luck. Tuning is going to be trouble unless it has a forged crank. Ask the 2.5RS-T guys.

Call me stupid, but if I have the STi, I stay close to stock and use it as a daily driver, and mod my RS to hell.

It sounds like Subaru has beefed everything up as far as engine internals go... although, the 6-speed it still only rated to 300hp, so it may have the same issue with mods as the WRX tranny.

From the new Impreza site:
"The 2.5-liter horizontally opposed ("boxer") four-cylinder engine is based on a specially reinforced "semi-closed deck" engine block with forged aluminum alloy pistons, forged high-carbon steel connecting rods and sodium filled exhaust valves. This advanced powerplant incorporates Subaru AVCS (Active Valve Control System) variable valve timing technology to optimize the engine's volumetric efficiency throughout the rev band. This is the first application of this technology on a Subaru in North America. "

Sounds pretty damn sturdy

Well think on this for a moment... You will be able to get these things and drop them in your WRX or whatever. Trannies too. So if you have a WRX drop the motor in, go to aftermarket engine management and you have a lot of motor....

Nor the Cobb built 2.5 either.. but the cobb is around 10k before you add engine management, up,down, turbo, turbo back, intercooler, upgraded fuel system... do the math... Maybe these will be cheaper .. who knows. course you still have to add the other stuff...

I was waiting for the first "mod" thread. You kids are hittin' the pipe. People on this board would want to mod the space shuttle. Let me guess. The STi is "watered down," so everybody wants to mod it, to give it the horsepower it should have.

Stop, you're killing me!

I have a 2000 Yamaha yzf r1 with 130HP at the wheels that weighs about 500 lbs before I sit on it.. Its too much for me. The only thing I have ever owned that scared me when put the petal to the floor.. well.. the twister at 100%. So what I want is a car that has the same approximate power to weight ratio.. then I probably would quit moaning. Now, I calculate the atw HP of the bike to be .26HP per pound. If the STI weights 3200 lbs thats 832 HP at the wheels.. Give me that, I probably would stop asking for more... (crap. the bike only cost me 10k new too..) Might as well ask for brakes that stop me as fast too or is that forward facing JATOS?

amen brother! if simple mods on a 227hp wrx can net 300+ easily just imagine with some normal boltons what an sti can net.

the sti is more than just the 300hp don't forget!
controllable diff, standard hid lights, brembo brakes (thats 2k easily on the brakes alone) standard forged 17's with REAL tires (no sdkjff'n re92) and the list goes on.
if i could afford a 35k car i'd want one. as my 24k car is enough to swallow i'll stick to my "base" wrx with a few mods.
whoever owns this car will have quite a performer. i'm glad subaru didn't punk out on bringing this car over. they brought it full on, non watered down like we usually get from every manufacturer. even comes with a 2.5! heh sweeeeet. i would love to drive one one day.
i'll pay off my wrx and buy a legacy b4 5 years from now

Nothing about the crank though. Which is what Im most worried about. Hopefully it's forged.

I wouldn't mod it for a while. The warranty is too valuable to me.

After a few years now....

Why are you so concerned about the crank? I haven't heard of anyone w/ crank issues... I hear lots about pistons falling apart tho....

I doubt they're pushing above 18psi for those figures. It would be interesting to see what turbocharger they are using and if the intercooler is the same size and design as the JDM spec models.

If I were to get one, I'd like to be able to push it to around 350 or so hp, and I am sure most of that can be done with mere breathing changes and an updated ECU. I would probably have to add the 3" STi Cat-Back just for the stealth look. Perhaps a tuned header, downpipe with high-flow cat and upgraded STi panel filter and hoses would be added. That should decrease any apparent lag (if there is any) to nothing, while increasing engine efficiency and power at the same time. I don't think that's going too far. (I hope the factory turbo can handle that, I'd rather keep the factory turbo.)

But then again I can't afford an STi for a few years so I'll just keep dreaming. (I wouldn't mod the Space Shuttle either, I'd just build a better one. )

Haha, are you kidding? It's an EJ25!

More like 10psi to get 300hp. If that.

well whooo knows the compression?

i have to agree with zacek

a $750 ecu retune should easly make it a more powerfull car than a stage 2 setup
