Default OT: Exchange rate SUCKS

Man i miss the days of the dollar on par. I just decided to cancel an order because the loonie is falling so much... good thing the part was still on backorder and hadn't shipped out yet.

Totally sucks. I want to blame the Americans for this but really is it their fault. We had a good ride with the high loonie. Just wish I had bought more with it

Heh I was thinking the same thing. I was going to order some snow times from Tire Rack. However pondering about the tire selection for a couple of weeks made me loose out on a hundred or so in savings

Although the exchange rate sucks, it's not as bad as the giant markups we Canadians have to pay I'm still able to save some money when I buy stuff from the states.

It's because everyone and their dog is moving their money out of US banks and buying US Gov't T-Bills. This is esentually buying US Currency and therefore, making it go higher.

It defies logic as the US Gov't is insolvent and printing money like mad, which should be Decreasing the value of the US $!

Stupid...

exactly.
Combine that with a low oil price, and we're in a world of hurt when it comes to our dollar value.

The good thing is, exporters just made an additional 21%. In fact, I'm working hard today to get all of my US shipments out so we can bill at a $.79c dollar. Also, this should help our tourism quite a bit. No more Aspen, as the yanks will be coming back to Whister.

What's really scary are the three major developments that have halted in the last two weeks. Only time will tell how deep this recession will run.

exactly....not to mention the fact that you simply can't get a lot of things up here...

i think the our dollar should go back up as soon as this whole "economic crises" is over and everyone stops panicking and untwists their panties....

Yeah, doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me either when our economy should be in much better shape than US, and people still give US the benefit of the doubt when they have shown to be printing money whenever they feel like it. Then again, the US economy is huge compare to ours

It's all relative... CAD to USD is down but USD to EUR and GBP is down too. CAD is driven by resource prices and right now they're tanking too.

makes you think why most Canadian car manufacturers didn't lower their retails ina big way and only offered temporary cash discounts for the ones who could afford it.
They knew they just had to weather the storm of band-wagon jumping Canadian consumers for a year or less, and then it would all level out again.

Anyone who thought the Canadian dollar would stay at par for years was sorely mistaken.

Our Canadian oil is currently de-valued, driving down the loonie.

Wait for the 2010 Subaru STi to go back up to $50K!!

Went to pay for a flywheel I bid on off eBay. The days between bidding and paying the exchange rate dropped... dammit. $185 USD shipped turned into $220 CAD. Still saved $80 I guess, but half would've been nice...
