Default Anyone looking to buy an Sti...look at Van Bortals

Not only do Van Bortals offer the Sti at the best prices but they also give discounts on factory installed options.
I got a call from the salesman I was dealing with at Van Bortals and he let me know that my car was in and also told me that it had a few factory installed options. I thought Oh that’s how they make up for the great price on the car. Anyway I called him back and asked for the specifics on what options were on the vehicle and what the prices were. He listed the options and prices and said don't worry we will give them to you at cost.
Wow. I checked it out and could not believe that I got everything at cost.
All I can say is Van Bortals.......Rocks!!!!!!!!!
I cannot understand how someone who is mentally sound, can purchase the Sti for more than MSRP, and I have heard that some people in southern California have paid anywhere from $5000 to even $10,000 over MSRP. Can you say "Morons". Either they are filthy rich and don't care or just ignorant. Don’t, get me wrong, the Sti is a fantastic automobile and worth every penny, however it is not worth $10,000 over invoice. All they have to do is travel a little to the next State and save the bucks. Oh well to each his own I guess. I am sure when I get down there with my Sti and they ask what I paid, they will either not believe me or just faint. Got to remember to keep my bill.
Cheers.

Southern Callifornia is pretty far from Van Bortel in NY. I wouldn't call that the next state. I personally did not pay over MSRP for mine. However, it is possible that all of the dealers in a particular area were gouging and people who either had the $, or were otherwise willing to pay over sticker paid it. I'm glad you feel as if you got a good deal on your STi. Hooray for you. I'm not sure its fair for you to judge anyone for how much they paid for their car becuase you feel as if you got a good deal on yours.

anyone who pays over msrp is what the guy said above.. And I don't call it judgement..
There is not need to do that, especially now, when the demand is way down and supply is catching up..

Just for the record, VB does not have a scheme to make money by adding options. Myself and several others all bought STi's from VB with zero options (base cars). No radio, no wheel locks, no e-RV mirror, no armrest extension, nada, nothing, zero.

Congrats Maverick...trust me the wait was well worth the time.

Ah, hell, this has been dragged through the mud many times.

The price of this car is inexpensive enough to some that the mark up above MSRP may not bother them. Depending on where you live MSRP and MSRP+ are still a fact of life. I know I can get a car for less at Van Bortel than what I'm paying locally...so what. I'll take the convenience over the cash saving. No big deal. Calling someone a moron in this context is born out of ignorance and jealosy (I know you didn't say this Andmaxx but you supported the sentiment).

You guys should just deal with the fact that money is not as important to some as it is to others. It's that simple. The key is that you're all enjoying the car. Period.

I'm going to help out my buddy AMD as he didn't mean his post to sound/be as you guys (MX_9 & Spool1536) are taking it.

The point is basically that although MSRP is par, shoor for under par if you can.
Now of course up state NY may not be within the range of everyone but hey just know that options are available. Various others dealers all over the country, including one reported early last month located in Arizona, are now beginning to deal at sub-MSRP rates. Now they aren't as low as VB, but hey saving a buck today may equate to five in your pocket tomorrow.

Yes, there are some extremely fortunate folks for whom money is not a concern and they could care less what they paid fro the STi as they would/expected to pay more such performance. Nothing wrong with that.
But do know that if you happen to be such a fortunate soul, that you are very much in the minority not just here on the board but in the US of A as a whole. Not all of us have money trees in our backyards or live in neighborhoods with streets paved of gold.

The Economy is bad and regular people/STi buyers are suffering...

As such folks like AMD, myself and many others here try to spread the wisdom of consumer savings to any/all within ear shot. It sounds like you guys are aware of the price offeriongs out there but still to this day some folks don't realize that they can refuse to pay dealer markups and that they have options. Heck there is another thread here about some guy's cousin who supposedly was charged extra money (markup!) for the addition of A/C in his STi as thoug it were a dealer option (!). So yes there are and will remain to be 'marks', 'suckers', and 'un/under-educated' STi buyers floating about and as such some of the brighter more educated folk try to help our fellow Subie bretheren.

Don't take AMD's comments personal as I know him and I'm sure he didn't mean it that way. Best of luck to you boys in procuring your STi's locally.

Default Sorry boys. I take the term moron back. I just wanted to ...

I just wanted to point out that it is not necessary to pay over MSRP, anywhere or anytime. No harm intended. Maybe I am loosing my senses a little in antisipation of getting my new Sti. Forgive me. Trust me, after going for a long test drive in the Sti, and then having to hop back into my 1988 Honda civic winter beater(90hp), it really sucks.
I just don't like to see anyone being taken advantage of by unscrupulous dealers. We all work darn hard for our money, I know I do and we all deserve to get the car at least at MSRP (what the manufacturer intended).
I think that dealers like Van Bortal and others that are selling at MSRP have a great deal of class and integrity and deserve all the business they get.
Good luck to all at getting a great deal.
Cheers

And just to add to what Janq said,,just because they are asking fr $5000 over invoice or even MSRP doesnt mean you have to pay that.If your a serious buyer some will move on price, dont just look at the sticker or the bump sticker and figure,,"too much fr me".

Show the dealer your serious about buying one. They get lots of people window shopping,,go a step beyond that, and ask em what kinda finacing they have etc..Show some serious interest and maybe youl wind up with a great deal, maybe not.
Too many people have emailed me whining about the bump stickers at certain dealers when i know these same dealers will sell fr less.
Matter of fact, i went out on a limb fr a guy who told me he was serious about buying one, i hooked him up,gave him the name and numbers to call.Did he call,,Nope!
This was on a car at less then MSRP! Not alot less, but some.
And to top it off,he still whines and moans on here about STi bump pricing!!!
Obviously,in spite of all he said,he wasnt serious,
Anyway to wrap up my rant lol, IF your serious these cars can be had fr less then what some expect to pay.
It never hurts to ask

For the record, I totally agree with trying for the best deal. (What I really disagreed with was the moron reference).

When I started getting into the low end of high-end audio I spent a lot of time at various shops listening to different pieces for my soon to be new system. Met a lot of nice people trying to eek out their existence by running a business in a field that is a hobby to them. So, I got to hear speakers and such that I would have not had the opportunity to check out had they not had a shop. Now, as you know, the mark-up on electronics is pretty high. Mail ordering components becomes extremely appealing (assuming that the manufacturer allows their products to be sold mail-order). So, I chose a balance where I would only buy mail-order if the difference in price from local had a greater than 10% discount. So, I'd buy a pair of speakers locally for $2k (mail order $1600) IF they'd throw in some custom cables (roughly $100/speaker). End result: a wash (to me). ANd I support the local economy. Having family members that are business owners (not audio or auto) this last point is important to _me_.

This is how I view the purchase of the STi. I'm at MSRP on mine but I expect a deal on scheduled maintenance...wether it be free for x years or greatly discounted, and a transfer, at cost, of ext. warranty if I chose to buy it. Overall, the difference in price from Van Bortel to local is less than 10%, so I stick by my guiding principles. BTW, ALL of my audio for the STi will be mail order. The mark-up on car audio is amazing! BUT, I will have a local shop do the install and I'll probably buy my cabeling through them to give them a little extra margin.

In the end, it's all good. Do what you gotta do to make the deal right for you.
