Unhappy After 4 months of tinting the front windows w/o being caught, my luck finally ran out

Today is just another normal cloudy vancouver morning which i slept over again and was driving fast on the highway section of S.W marine drive towards UBC campus. Just before the highway section ends and a few hundred meters away from the traffic light, i found a RCMP car parking in the middle of the highway where there are a small break of the central island for ppl to make U-turns...I slowed down already and was flowing closely behind a van so i thought i got away....but i was wrong...

right after i turned onto 16th ave i found the police car following closely behind me and soon after he flashed his lights...

i pulled over, and explained nerviously that i had an exam that's why i was driving a bit fast...he asked for my driver's licence and insurance paper and went back to his car. after he came back he asked if i had tinted my front windows and explained to me that it's illegal and gave me this warning to take the tint off within 10 days or i'll get ticket~

the police officer was actually pretty nice coz i was actually driving 95 in 80 zone, phew...i thought i'm gonna get another ticket...lol (reminds me of the boundary rd incident!! which i haven't received letter for the court of dispute yet...lol)

anyways, i'm just wondering how much does it cost to take tint off the windows??
and do i have to bring my car to the police station where the RCMP officer is belong to for him to check??

finally, for UBC students who mod their car a lot...BE CAREFUL!! my friend just got a VI in UBC a few weeks back, and now it's my windows...(i was afraid that he'll give me an VI too...my loud exhaust...)

so...just watch out and try to avoid taking route where the police officers are... (ie, the highway section of S.W marine drive during rush hours, or area around book store..u know the police station is right there~lol)

Anyways, thx for looking at my long write up!
if anybody has any idea on where/how much to removing tinting plz let me know...THX in advance!!!

p.s. i was actually thinking abt borrowing a blue 2000 2.5RS sedan w/o tinting for the checking...lol lol
but nay, they aren't that stupid~

lucky you got warning instead of notice and order to remove those tinting

if he didn't ask you to go back to police station to check then i dun think you have to go back

Did he give you a written warning? Otherwise he's probably just BS'ing.

is that the one said you have 30 days to do inspection otherwise you will be fine 500 if you get caught again?

if that's the one, then the notice and order ticket will ask you to go to inspection faclity to do inspection. and usually it is a big pain in the ass if you wanna do it legally

Yeah, what % of tint did you have on your front window?

Is 50% even noticeable? I have 35% and on a sunny day you can barely tell tint is there.

Just wondering, how come some BM or Benz have reflected tinted windows too? If you look closly, there is a difference. Are they illegal too?

yeah, it specifically said front driver and passenger windows...and the facility for inspection is on Westbrook Mall...(in UBC i suppose) so i guess it's just a police station.

no it doesn't say anything abt the amount of the ticket that i'll be given if i don't take off the tint...

it only say:
Promptly repair or remedy the defect(s) or omission(s) noted below and present this notice with the vehicle within 10 days to

2990 Westbrook Mall

so...it's not a VI right?

Some cars come with windows that are slightly tinted but it's not the same type of tint as what we put on so it's considered legal.

like, we tint our windows by sticking this coloured film on it, but the windows on ML is colours that it cannot be removed.

Yep, the color is like in the glass itself. I know my windows have a greenish tint to them. You can really see the color on a rainy day.

Looked up the rules and I see that B.C. doesn't allow any tinting on the front windows... and yet any kind on others. Windshield can only have a few inches (7.5 cm) at top.

http://www.iwfa.com/iwfa/Consumer_In...vincelaws.html

I've seen $50 USD mentioned before for removal at a shop. Although I've never had anything of mine done. Only been considering it for the new OBS.
