shiv,

Do you think EVO's will average a 0.3 sec quicker 0-60 than STi's?

TIA,
kenzo

If so, then that's what Subaru gets for the press ban, which is basically begging journalists to stick it to you.

so confused. could they have mixed up the times. Meaning the STI got the 4.59 and almost 13 flat. From Road track who got high 13's and most people on evolutionm.net are in mid to high 13's. I'm pleased with the STI's numbers but i don't understand how it could be slower than the evo. Could the weight of the STI have been severly underratted. WHAT? Could you scan the whole article or maybe it's online somewhere i'd be interested in reading the whole article. aaaahhh, brain hurts, so confused right now, don't know what to think. Both those braking distances are pretty amazing though.

Well, I heard you have to shift into 5th gear before the 1/4. I'm not sure about 0-60 though, but probably in the 3rd gear as well.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the EVO have better tires than the STI. This makes alot of difference in handling/braking and traction off the line?

Same tires I wonder the out come.
BTW
What gear is the STI in going thru the traps.

I believe shiv said in another thread they were shifting to 5th well before the traps, and still running faster than the EVO.

Sometimes stickier tires are a disadvantage, a lot of WRX's times decrease because stickier tires caused them to bog off the line.

I don't see how these number are right. I don't see how an AWD car of similar weight and gearing has a slower time, considering it has 70whp more... We'll just have to wait and see I guess, but these numbers go contrary to everything we've heard about which one is faster is a straight line from people who've driven both.

Thread explodes with disbelief.

May I ask again, how a car that needs 3 shifts to get to 60 and 5 to get thru the 1/4 can be less aggressively geared?

Can the parent poster clarify?

Both cars weigh the same.

and heres what shiv said about the sti in the 1/4

"Newsflash: The STi that I saw dyno'd made substantially more power than the EVO. And not suprisingly, it's also a bit quicker and faster in the 1/4 mile, despite having to shift into 5th gear well before the trap. Compared to the STi, power output isn't the EVO's strong point. But that should be old news by now."

I went to the Dragway today (family of 4) and now I believe I hold the record for 60', ET, and MPH . I broke in the car very very mildly as instructed by Mitsu, I've always used 93 Mobil/ Shell/ Amoco fuel, I have 1000 miles on the OD, and everything else was untouched as it came from the factory. I made 5 runs but I will only show 4 (missed second gear on my third run, totally my fault, not the trans). Also as a side note, I was trying different launch techniques and shift points to find the sweet spots, so they won't be too consistant.

1st run:
60' 2.002
330' 5.756
1/8 8.826
mph 81.64
1000' 11.480
1/4 13.690
mph 104.02

2nd run:
60' 1.841
330' 5.444
1/8 8.461
mph 82.56
1000' 11.092
1/4 13.289
mph 104.56

3rd run: missed second but still ran a 13.768@ 100.34mph
4th run:
60' 1.776
330' 5.406
1/8 8.410
mph 81.88
1000' 11.003
1/4 13.185
mph 102.17

5th run:
60' 1.742
330' 5.406
1/8 8.435
mph 81.21
1000' 11.058
1/4 13.261
mph 101.87

My day at the track.
Best shift points: 6800-6900 rpm
Leave the air filter in the factory air box, lost mph with it out. (possibly too much air)
I never power-shifted just shifted quick and I short shifted the 1-2 at 6400-6600 for best 60'
Spray was on auto (manual through 4th did not help)

Beat up on a modded WRX (13.28 @106, his best), Cobra (high 13's), modded Civic Si (mid 14's- 15's), SVT truck, Camaro's, modded 240SX, etc. but got ate up by a 500hp (stock looking) beautiful blue Cobra (mid 12's @ 116+) and a SVT truck (low 12's @117, claimed to run 11.97 best).

For a reference, I have been in the Drag Racing scene for almost 19 years so this is my thing. If I pull a half dozen 1/4 mile racing tricks out of my sleeve (keeping it stock and no bolt on's), I know I could pull a 12.99 at 106-107mph or better out of my EVO. Unfortunately, I'm not really interested in doing that anytime soon because I would like to try my luck at local Solo II autocross events.

I also want to mention that 5 runs isn't enough to test what the EVO (4G63) may like or dislike on a Dragstrip. From my track experience, I just had a little head start. Good luck EVO lovers.

Oh by the way, I'm no light-weight, 6'3", 205lbs.
Special? He's an experienced dragster.

I'm still waffling on which my next car's going to be anyway. That is, my NEXT next car, because I won't be able to afford a Rex or Evo for another 8 years or so...

Sorry fluids in a evo do not add up to 1000 lbs. The 2 cars weigh about the same, a 4222'lbs car with only 271hp would not be quartering under 14secs.

Ummm, GVWR = Gross Vehicle Weight Rating. This is not the weight of the vehicle, but rather the maximum possible weight of of the vehicle including cargo, passengers, fluids, etc.

An S-10 4x4 pickup weighs about 4500lbs. Since it is a half-ton, the GVWR is around 5500lbs. Sorry to burst your bubble!
