The DCCD isn't new, it's just new to the US.

It looks like the variable valve timing only changes INTAKE timing while the exhaust is left unchanged, true?

It has both DCCD and ABS, correct? These two were mutually exclusive options in the past, you could have one or the other but not both.

This is going to be a beautiful car. I must drive one... and hopefully own one some day...

DCCD is not new, it's like(I believe) the US auto center diff. Electro hydraulic clutchpack. except instead of letting the TCU control it, the user gets a dial for it. I believe the brits refer to it as "dial-a-smell" because other settings than standard cause the clutch plates to emit a smell somewhat like when you dump your clutch.

As for the WRC regulations, they are not as strict as they used to be. Way back, manufacturers had to produce so many of the cars they run, but now they just have use basically the shell of a car they produce so many of. There are more complex rules, but that's the gist of it.
There are different categories of cars/races that Subaru competes in too, so this won't really be a WRC car, but more likely an SCCA Open Class ProRally car... IF it hold together...

DCCD hasnt' been offered in with any of the following until now:

1. ABS
2. EBD
3. "Auto mode" (I think, might be wrong)

Thumbs up Surprisingly good Spec!

i think the coolest thing about the 2.5l spec of the USDM STi is that it went above and beyond anyone's expectations for the US market. 300hp! I was expecting a warmed over WRX with (hopefully) STi internals (and maybe 265 hp) so that we could safely up the power once it got here. I also did not expect to get DCCD or front LSD. The Brembo's? Who would have guessed! I would expect the normal Subaru 4/2 pots at the most. Even the center mounted tach and most of the interior was brought over. I am so glad SOA did not really cut any corners to make it safe for US consumption (which usually involves dumbing down the product for us hicks).

Good going Subaru! Too bad it won't be here in Wagon form. Us wagon lovers will have to be satisfied with the current 2.0 upgrade path and 280hp. I can't wait till people start crashing these! Yet another drivetrain swap possibility.

A good guess, but wrong.

The electroc hydraulic clutch pack technology is not even used on the WRX auto to actually transmit drive as it is on the naturally aspirated autos. (on them the entire rear drive goes through the clutch pack). It cannot handle the torque and duty cycle requirements.

The new-gen DCCD (I believe) uses some of the heavy duty VTD technology from the WRX auto box, and the auto mode gives similar behaviour to either the manual VC (but faster) more like the VTD auto. Yes, it is electronically controlled but I believe there actually is a diff there, rather than just the clutch pack.

Jon in CT, can you add some color/corrections to my statements?

I believe this feature (DCCD Auto) is new for the MY03 (US MY04) STi, Paul would know. The prior STi's I've been in had the adjustment but not auto mode.

DCCD auto is new. In fact, the entire DCCD system seems to be new, or at least evolved from the previous DCCD system. Response is quicker, and probably needed to be beefed up to handle the power of the new STi 2.0.

OK, that dovetails with what I'd heard about the new DCCD using some of the VTD bits and the pictures we've seen of the new tranny on the microsite.

Can anyone give a good estimate on how many turns lock-to-lock the 15:1 steering ratio yields?

Found it: 3.0

How does 15:1 equal 3.0 turns to turn?

If so, that's not so good
A quicker ratio of 2.0 turns to turn would be better!

Default What is the redline on this thing?

Is it 8k like the 2.0 liter sti over seas?

I'd be happy with just 7k because its a bigger block and definitely has a different power band... But more is almost always better ;o)

It's actually between 7500 and 8000. I've been seeing mid 4 second runs (speculation) 0-60 for the Sti, and low 13's in the 1/4. Also, top end of 155 or so. What does everyone think?
