Also, I did not realise that the EVO lacked a front LSD. This sounds like the setup in the current WRX, which lacks a front LSD and has a Viscous Coupler LSD in the center. The US-spec EVO also has a Viscous Coupler as the center diff, right ? Instead of the kick-ass ACD of the EVOs sold in the Japan market?

Am I reading this wrong ??

The US-spec STi on the other hand, has the Center DCCD with the Dual Planetary gear center diff (with driver controllable torque split by varying the pitch of the Center planetary gear differentials) and Electronic transfer clutches, working with a Mechanical LSD in the front (suretrac?) and an electromechanical LSD in the rear. This is in addition to all the other goodies like the US exclusive Torquey/powerful 2.5L turbo engine and the 6-speed transmission. I think if the dealers don't indulge in marking it up, then this should be a fantastic car to bring home. JMHO.

Sti. FIrst off the evo doesent look that great, and lets just look at basics, a 6th gear and more power for a few grand more. Sti is the way to go.

What would the lack of a Front LSD along with the lack of AYC do ?

In a low-traction situation where both the rear wheels are on an icy patch and if one of the front wheels are on an icy patch, the EVO would spin its wheels and basically go nowhere.

The STi will power out of that situation, with a wink.

I'm not a huge fan of either so don't assume I'm biased

The Evo is and always has been setup for tarmac use and the STi "probably" will be very similar so I don't know that this situation is valid for either car's use pattern, but you are right.

The lack of LSD in the front will create more understeer under power than the LSD which is similar to a torsen diff if not the same found in the STi. If you've ever driven an ITR or CL-S 6MT you know the feeling of pulling the front end around this kind of diff gives you. Personally I like the feeling.

The EVO may not have AYC or ACD... but in reality, if you really do your research, you don't want AYC, it limits the preformace as to the computer is a slow responder, now Super AYC is a differnt game, With a new ECU and A boost controller..boost set to 20 psi... you will have around 300 hp if not over... Compnies have already gotten 30-40 more hp.from simple tuning.... but the fact is that tuners havnt been able to see the STi's capabilities..so if i were you, i'd simply wait..
