clear them and deal with the ones that come back. make sure the battery is good - no bad cells, alternator is good, etc.

p0420 is notoriously difficult to pinpoint but is very rarely the cat itself.

knock sensors crack/go bad. if you replace it, clean the area it mounts well, use the correct torque - do not over torque it.

if possible, look at freezeframe data or otherwise examine long term fuel trims. they should be single digit numbers - lower the better.

check for exhaust leaks.

Code: P0304 Cylinder 4 misfire.
Year/Make/Mode: 2013 Impreza WRX STi
Mileage: 2250
Fix for problem: Not sure yet. All that happened was I was in third gear at about 4500rpm in S# and then I see the CEL flicker briefly and then I'm sitting in I mode. Checked the error code using Torqued app and sure enough, had a P0304. Did some more logging and error has not occurred again. Since this is a brand new car, the general consensus that I've seen floating around is it's just an ECU mishap. Seems most people get it "fixed" by Subaru re-flashing with an updated firmware. This shouldn't matter much for me though, because I'm running the OTS Cobb Stage 1 tune. Hopefully it was a one time occurrence.

Impreza WRX P0138, Help!

Code: P0138 O2 Sensor Circuit High Voltage, Bank 1 Sensor 2
Year/Make/Model: 2012 WRX Sedan
Mileage: 8,000
Fix for problem: NONE, HELP!

I took my car into get body work done and when I got the car back it threw this code. I noticed my OBDII connection was broken and that wasn't like that before I took it in (Don't know if that could cause this). The code seems slightly sparatic at best. I drove for almost 3 hours today and didn't get the code. Everything from stop and go traffic to high cruising to the drive through with no code. I stop to go to the ATM and when I leave the parking lot boom, throws it again. I have a TurboXS TBE I have been running since September and Cobb SF Intake with an AP. Cobb said the O2 Sensor may be shot or shorting and reading some other posts people said replacing it didn't work. Any help before I spend $170 on an O2 Sensor would be greatly appreciated.

could be a wiring issue. perhaps the bodyshop hit the rear sensor or its wiring. You might be able to make them fix it. I had my car repaired after a wreck and the bodyshop forced an endlink onto the (bent) front anitsway bar. Took some photos of the link that broke weeks later and an email to convince them it was hidden/concealed damage PLUS they needed to buy new endlinks.

I put the car on a lift and inspected the sensor and wiring and it was fine. I don't want to rush out and buy a $130 sensor if it isn't the problem.

Found the sensor from another company on Amazon to $62 shipped. Car worked great after and I drive 1,200 miles in one day with no problems.

New to the STI. I have an 08 STi and got a check engine light. I then noticed the S was blinking, the Cruise light was blinking and the VDC was yellow. Anyone have any ideas? The VDC and Cruise were not doing this before so it seems as though it is giving me some hint, I just don't know what it is. It figures, I have my first Autocross with this car tomorrow. Any help would be great.

BTW, if I pull the battery cable will the code reset or will it remember?

CEL(s): P0700(Transmission Control System malfunction), P1718(AT CAN communication circuit)

I have searched all over this forum and the internet for solutions to this, but every thread seems to end without the OP ever posting how they fixed the issue..

Two days ago I drove to the gym, car was fine. However, when I left, the CEL came on. At first, the AT OIL temp was illuminated, but is no longer on. So I pulled the codes and got a p0700 and a p1718. Car still seems to be driving fine, no weird smells, still shifts smoothly and idles great. I attempted to clear the codes, but they stayed on. The only information I've been able to gather is that a few posters say it could be some sort of loose connection in the wiring/connectors, a short in the system or a loose ground but I have NO idea at all where to look for these Transmission connections.
I've recently changed the oil and had the cooling system flushed before winter. Other than that, I haven't done any work on it recently.

Only mods are the Williaty Hybrid intake mod from here(been on for about 4 months, never any problems/CELS before) and an STI catback.

Any input at all would really be appreciated. I am at a loss here and the light has been on for about 4 days now. I am starting to get worried since it is my only DD.

I've had a weak battery cause weird codes on our Outback.

Also, maybe there's some rodent damage on a wiring harness?

Hmm. Battery is just over a year old, just installed new terminals and cleaned all the connections so I don't think it would be the battery. I also have an AEM volt gauge installed and on a normal start up and drive it stays between 14.2-14.6, rarely ever drops to 13.9; unless there are a lot of accessories on.

I've been at school all week but I'm going to try and head home at some point this weekend to check wires, etc. should I just check the wiring under the steering wheel?

Update: checked the transmission fluid today, levels are good and the fluid looks and smells normal. Checked the TCU under the steering column, no loose or shorted wires there at all. All fuses and connections are intact. Reset the ECU again after all this and the light is still on.. Really at a loss here

CEL comes on a few miles after fueling, then goes away half a tank later. Car is bone stock except for a replacement cat-back exhaust (Walker).

Already have both O2 sensors replaced, as well as the Cat bypass. Wondering if this is something that could settle out, or if simply disconnecting the battery to reset the ECU could do a hard reset. No fix yet.

Had this with mine for a while. It's almost certainly the rear catalytic having issues. Rather than drop $600 on a new one, you can try this:

http://www.bigdaddiesgarage.com/straight-cel-fix.html

Or similar. Note, this is a band-aid, not a "fix" per se.

Fix: None as of yet. Though Some of my mechanic friends tell me that it is the rear o2 that needs to be replaced. Took it to get inspected and talked to the mechanic there, told me it could be the rear o2, the down pipe going bad, or a hole in the exhaust system. There are currently two small hole right behind the midpipe, and was told that could be it. Not quite sure. Hopefully getting to my friends lift in the spring to get that sealed so its at least a bit more quiet.
I've had the car for a little over a year now, and I've had this problem since I got it.

Threw an evap code before winter came (P1443 Evaporative emission control system vent control function problem, I believe) had that part replaced when I got an alignment.

Any input for the 0420 code would be greatly appreciated. Still searching around for that as well.
This is an update. I had gotten the sparkplugs replaced, and the o2 sensor checked. Wasn't that. Ended up needing to get the exhaust fixed for a bunch of leaks and had a new cat put it. So far no issues and is so much more quiet now

Sorry if I'm in the wrong place but I have a basically bone stock 2005 impreza wrx with around 150k miles. Only mods are cat back exhaust and a lightweight crank pulley. And I'm having a cell for global misfires on top of flashing cell which I've heard is saying is a gross misfire and not to drive the car anymore. I've replaced the 02 sensors, done a leak down and compression test, replaced the aicv and gasket. I have heard the lightweight crank pulley will do that but it was happening prior so I'm out of ideas. I did notice I have a pretty bad exhaust leak I'm looking into getting fixed can bad cats or bad manifds cause such a major issue?

P0442 Evaporative emission control system malfunction

2004 WRX STI

Just bought the car and went through the paperwork and noticed the boost gauge had been added on. My boost gauge had been reading about 5psi less than it should. I looked under the hood an noticed the boost gauge line had been zip tied. Ran a new boost gauge vacuum line the correct size and light went off.

If you car is misfiring and has been for a while, it'll destroy the cats. Replace the plugs and check the coil packs. Use platinum plugs. I change mine from autolites to ngk platinums, and it runs smoother. Then get the exhaust fixed.Clean the sensors too. Just my 0.02

2005 Subaru WRX, 81k miles, bought the car 2 years ago, completely aftermarket exhaust, larger tmic, may be other mods I'm not aware of. P0420 for low cat efficiency

Had the code deleted by a tuner, car still driving good don't know of any negative effect as of yet, glad I did it though

For P0442 Double check all the vacuum lines. Maybe you knocked one loose.

Default Misfire on cylinder 1 & 3

Code: P0301 P0303
Year/Make/Model: 2006 Subaru WRX STI
Mileage: 60300
Fix for problem: I bought the car from the Oak Lawn Mazda dealer with 50k It is completely stock. I replaced the spark plugs with good plugs and I also flipped my coils and the misfire is still on the same two cylinders. I also looked into the Carfax and the turbo was replaced by a subaru dealer and also the intercooler also looks like it was replaced. The check engine light comes on and goes off sometimes and it i can only feel the misfire when I'm at a stop.... Any idea what it can possibly be? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
