Code: P0141 O2 Sensor Heating Circuit Malfunction (Bank1 Sensor2)
Car: MY98 2.5 RS
Mileage: 63,XXX
Mods: Brullen Header Back exhaust system.

Fix: Brought it to a place with OBDII code pulling computer, pulled code, reset code, drove around. It's only been 30 minutes of driving (stop and go traffic) so I'm not sure if this really fixed things. There is the possibility of having to replace the O2 sensor, but I'm not sure. I'll see if the code comes back in the near future and update this thread.

The heating element in the rear 02 may have burned out, or the wires may be damaged.

Thanks for the info. Hopefully I'll be able to keep it "problem free" when I go home for break. Then, when I get back to available lifts, I'll be able to do a better job with those wires, I might know what the probelm is now. I'll see if the problem comes back or not.

Thanks again.

Default My car started a new code

I just got a P1133 anyone know or ever see this. I drive a 01'RS. Borla header, Hi-Flow cat.,Stromung catback, Injen CAI. I had just left ILP from having a P0420. About halfway down the road it comes back on. So I turn around and have them check it out, and a P1133 shows up. They couldnt find that code anywhere in the book nor can I find anything about it. Anyone ever hear of this code befor? Any help will be great. Thanks!

Code: P0136 Rear o2 sensor malfunction
Mileage: 8500
Fix: None yet..took car to dealer to have front O2 sensor replaced, code went away for a few hundred miles, came back in the middle of drive home from ice racing yesterday. Anyone have any ideas? I have a guess that the wiring rubbed through itself on the frame of the car due to a stretch.

Mods: Brullen header-back exhaust.

Anyone know where I can get a rear O2 sensor cheap?

Would I have to get the car to the dealer to get the CEL reset or will it go away by itself? I'm thinking the problem may be the gas cap cause it wasn't put on properly and I was driving it for like 40-50 miles then it came on. After I resetted it by unplugging the batter it came back like 20 miles and after a week of driving it. Now after another fill up and 40 miles later the light went off when I started the car before coming home. I'm going to be bringing it to the dealer for the recall anyway but just wondering if the problem may correct itself?

You're just playing guessing games if you don't get the code read. The loose gas cap is a common cause of CELs but there are a hundred or so others. Doing a reset without knowing the cause is just wishful thinking.
If the problem that originally caused the CEL to set is corrected or goes away, the light will go off on its own after the car is driven a few times. If the light does not go out, goes out and then comes back on, or comes back after a reset this indicates the problem is still present and the code is continually being set.
Since you are going to the dealer anyway just have them check it, but for the future if you get a CEL don't reset it by disconnecting the battery. Go to Autozone and have the code read, or find a fellow member in your local area with a scanner to read it. Even better, get yourself a scanner so you can read it yourself.
When you do a reset by disconnecting the battery it doesn't just clear any codes that are present. It also clears out all the adaptive learning info in the ECU and resets the tables to their defaults so the learning process has to start all over again. This isn't something you want or need to do without a good reason.

Fix for problem: Got it read and cleared at Autozone, might get a code reader from tehm

I had teh exhaust on for 1000 km with no CEL. It took 2 hours of snorting around on country backroads and highways, ratehr than my usual short city drives, before this came on. The kicker might have been driving down a lane with 8" of snow, tehn having to back up through this for 1/4 mile when I hit teh dead end.

Code came on a second time. Wife was driving, never got it above 3000rpm, after five minutes on the highway, cruising at about 2500rpm, CEL comes on. Cat probably cooled off from lack of hard driving

I pulled this code going to Autozone.

P0130 Front oxygen (A/F) sensor circuit range/performance problem (lean)

2002 Subaru Forester L
15,000 miles about

The only aftermarket part I have is a K&N Filter, should I take that out before going to the dealer and if that's causing the problem? The K&N has been on there since 1,000 miles.

Not sure, I reset it and it didn't come back, go figure. I checked the egt, it's tight, everything looked alright, been a few days now.

I originally had this code pulled by the dealership since I had the car in for an oil leak anyway. I authorized them to do all the work and their solution for this problem was to replace the MAF sensor. Unfortunately they didn't do that, they just checked some connections around the EGR sensor and called it good when the CEL didn't come back. Of course I found out a few days later that the problem was still there.

This time I took the car to Autozone and had it checked. I ordered a new MAF sensor from them ($330, would have been $355 from dealer) and installed it the next day in their parking lot. After resetting the ECU and driving it around a bit everything seemed fine. It's been about 2 weeks now with no problems so I think that was it.

FYI the symptoms of this will happen before you throw a code. They will be random stalling followed by differing length periods of no problems. It's a very intermittant problem and a pain to troubleshoot since the CEL comes and goes.

FYI #2, the MY98 has a different MAF sensor than the newer models. It's a full assembly in which the sensor is permanently attached which is why it is more expensive, you have to buy the whole thing. Also expect a $75 core charge for it because it is a large plastic assembly.

Default Any one else....P0302 Cylinder 2 misfire detected and P1245 Wastegate control solenoi

I have been having issues with CELs now and again but they usually go away. I chalked it up to boostspikes or other quirks generated by my TXS set up. I have a stage 1 more or less (more more than less but whatever).

I had to have my alarm reprogramed at the dealer so i had the mechanic do an overall inspection on the car and check out the CELs that I have been having. I didn't have time to have him do an indepth test, ie leak down, compression test etc, but he told me that I had a missfire on #2 and a wastegate prob.

Anyone else have this problem? did you investigate further? I am hopping it is just a glitch and nothing to worry about. My car has about 20k on it and I am already having problems due to the light mods that I have....well crap..I may have to rethink my mod philosophy as well as subaru and TXS...hmmm.

Let me know what ya think....

Default another CEL blinking this time...

I got another CEL but this time it was blinking. I got it during a hard right hand turn...it blinked about 4 or 5 times then went out. Hmm. I haven't taken it back to the dealer yet...I think Friday but I wonder if it was a fuel thing. You know low gas and tripped something...

I dunno

That is a catalyst inefficiency code, it is most likely caused by either a bad cat or modified (catless) exhaust. It is unlikely to be a bad 02 sensor. The readings from the rear 02 sensor are used to determine whether to set this code, but if the sensor itself was bad there should be additional codes related to the sensor itself. The 0420 alone usually indicates a problem with the cat.

Most likely a bad knock sensor. I'm not familiar with the Ludespeed kit and how it is connected, does it connect to the knock sensor circuit in any way? If it does there could be a problem with that wiring.

cool, sucks if the cats bad, i've done nothing to the exhaust, just added a intake. i've been tempted to change my exhaust setup but can't afford to.

if i have to replace the cat....hmmm...not sure what to do then. would love to upgrade but most exhaust systems, i think, would be cat back so i would still need to replace the cat? meaning it wouldn't be included in whatever setup i get.

Yeah. The J&S Safeguard Knock Retard system goes connected to the stock knock sensor wire on the ECU. It looks like the ECU doesn't like it. I'm going to try a 10ohm resistor on that wire and see if that helps out any.

Smile RE: auricom P0420

Auricom,
Since you only have 45K on the clock, you should take it to the dealer and they will replace the cats under the 8yr/80K emissions warranty. I just had this done to my vehicle at 65K mi today. I had had the P0420 code set several times. (See second post on this thread for some of my experiences). I had expected some hassle since my stealer is Southern States here in Raleigh NC which is usually a tough dealer to work with but they gave no lip whatsoever. Good Luck.

So all I know right now is I'm confused as h***. I thought the 98's didn't have a map or maybe I'm just a little slow. It idles irregularly sometimes and doesn't get good gas milage, but other than that car rides pretty good. I guess its a bad sensor, I got a new PCV valve, figured it couldn't hurt. So does anyone know what sensor is messed up, I checked to make sure they were all plugged in, so its not an operator error.
Thanks

CAR: 2001 RS 2.5 Manual trans., no mods. Mileage: 70 K+
CEL: the hubs got it read at a car place, didn't get actual code. They told him it was generated by an oxygen sensor b/c either the the sensor itself is bad or there's an exhaust leak.
SOLUTION: the hubs doesn't want to deal with it. Will anything bad happen if we don't fix this sensor thingy? He says no, but I'm the one who drives the car, many miles & not gently.

Too vague, you need to get the actual code and post it here for any useful feedback. There are a number of codes that are 02-sensor related but without knowing which one you had it's all speculation. I'm sure you can find a local NASIOC'er with a scanner to check it again for you, assuming it hasn't been reset and cleared.

There aren't any Autozones near me so I tried some other places. I won't mention any names...but Pep Boys and Monro each want $70.00 just to read my friggin' code. Well, actually, the Monro guy said "we don't just READ it...we EXPLAIN it to you" in his most condescending manner. I told him no thanks, I just need the code, and tore out of his parking lot.

Grrrrr. I drive 3-4 hundred miles a week on that car, and all the time that darn CEL is glaring at me...

The Hubs now says he remembers that it's the front O-2 sensor. If this needs to be replaced, is it expensive? Pardon my ignorance.
