08STI Broken T.Belt tensioner bolt
Hi. I have an 08 STI with a brand new 600HP motor with 3100km/1926 miles. I replaced all pulleys and tensioner with new parts. Tensioner was aftermarket. I was driving in traffic at low speed and car stopped abruptly. Tried to restart with nothing a couple of times. Had towed to mechanic, he tried to start and it started for 2 seconds and stopped, while belt was slapping and he pulled cover and found timing belt tensioner bolt broken. One motor builder said the bolt was either too tight or too loose? Mechanic said the hydraulic failed and caused the bolt to break?
I am guessing that I have 90% chance the valves are bent? If anyone could help me with possibilities of how the bolt broke, that would be great. I need to understand if the mechanic is to blame? Tensioner to blame? Bolt to blame?

Are you sure the bolt is what is broken? Was it torqued to spec? You really can't overtighten a tensioner bolt until it breaks - it threads into an aluminum bracket and will strip the threads out of the aluminum bracket before the bolt will break.
