Only Replace PCV or Hoses Too?
Need some quick advice as I'm planning to change the PCV Valve on my 2010 WRX which I'm sure is still the original one. Car has 114k on it.
As much as I want to change just the valve I get the feeling it would be easier/better to change all the hoses in that area as well. Can anyone share their experience? Thanks in advance.

Replaced the PCV Valve yesterday. Not as hard as it looked. Once the TMIC is removed it’s all there in plain view. Definitely need long narrow flat head screw driver to release and long needle nose pliers to close those stupid clamps.
The ‘F’ shaped hose with the two outlets that sits on the block broke into 3 pieces as soon as we maneuvered it around. Clearly sees the most heat and was quite brittle. Other hoses were surprisingly perfectly fine. Pretty sure it was the original PCV Valve in there. It made the slightest hint of noise but was basically clogged up and needed to be changed. Here are the Part #’s in case anyone is interested: PCV Valve 11810AA120 Connector PCV ‘F’ Hose 11821AA640 Large Clamp for above 14877AA010 |

I had essentially the same experience when I pulled mine a few years back. The F hose was hard and brittle and cracked easily. Those locking ear clamps are also a PITA if you don't have the tool.
I was in there last week installing a Verus AOS, which necessitated moving to an STi PCV that mounts directly to the unit, rather than close to the block. The hose was in good condition this time around. I'd post a picture, but NASIOC photo hosting won't upload photos taken from my new phone, even if I upload from my computer... |

That’s good to know. We were talking about replacing the PCV every year as preventative maintenance. It’s like $30 for that hose so rather not replace it if I don’t have to. Interestingly it’s made in China, the PCV Valve Vietnam, and the Clamp France lol. I resize images before uploading them. Perhaps that’s the issue since new phones have high MP cameras which must produce larger files. |

The last time I replaced one of those hoses, I used a pair of hose pliers on that clamp.
FWIW, at our dealer we replace PCV valves every 30K miles. |

Thanks so much for the tip on pliers and the replacement interval. Me and friend were saying yearly but 30k makes more sense and that’s what I’ll do.
