i sell them for $5 each if you can't find them. but please only consider this as a last resort as i try to only sell them to people who really cant get them due to geographical inconvenience, and not because they don't want to look locally.

OMGHi2U

i talked to ryanswrx this morning, after getting off the phone i realized there are alot of people that missed some of the key points of this thread. so im going to recap and add some better info for every one.

also to be clear i did figure out this out how to get the OAT to work correctly, however it takes much more that the IR censor under the front windshield to make this work properly.

here is a list of stuff you'll need.

(there are two options to make this work, one will require retro fitting the center console to have auto controls (this will be option one), the other is to take the shroud from a STI and change the internals to manual while retaining the temp censor in the center console shroud. (option two))

option one list:

1.center console from a sti 04-07

2.all of the motors from the HVAC unit (temp motor, outside air motor, and fan)

3.sti cluster (duh)

4.IR censor (goes top center under the windshield)

5. the plugs from a sti wiring harness for the auto HVAC 04-07 (the consoles look different from 04 STI to the 05-07 but the plugs are the same)

6. TIME, lots and lots of time.
7. more time

8. solder. watch the trim

9. anti-depressants or beer.

-----------

option two list:

1.sti center shroud that matches the center console you already have.

2. dremel a steady hand.

i'm going to make a write up with pictures and step-by-step instructions later but i figure if some of you already have the required parts then this shouldn't be as complicated to figure out.

so a quick rundown (sneak preview) goes like this:

option one:

you're going to take apart you whole console and all the HVAC units.

then wire in the new auto motors. (very long and very stressful)

then your going to run the wires from the new plug to link with the IR sensor (similar to how the resistor was installed in the scoobymods thread but there won't be any resistors used.)

and then reassemble the dash after you are sure that all the HVAC components are working properly.

---------------------------------

option two:

take out the temp censor for the cabin in the shroud

dremel your old shroud to fit the new censor.

run the wires to the cluster, one to the resistor from scoobymods and the other to the IR censor's ground.

thats all.

i will later make a detail tut of option one. but option two you'll have to do on your own. (if your going to all the truble for an out side temp sensor then go the extra step and do a auto HVAC)

questions/comments, go ahead and leave them.

^^^You will be my hero if you can provide a good tutorial!

I have yet to find anyone that has actually gone through the trouble to do auto HVAC.

It sounds tedious and expensive.

its not expensive, but yes it is tedious. the cluster is more expensive than the whole project. but i have all the parts on hand so i can try these things out for only the time and cost of solder, extra wire and generic connectors. i buy wrecked STI's and part them out or fix and sell them. so if anyone needs some parts for this project let me know. i have most on hand.

this isnt the first out-there conversion to my favorite subi, this is a 2002 frame (at the weight station came in at 2790lb, yea its a little lighter than a sti ) i swapped out the 2.0 for a 2.5 with forged pistons, connecting rods, and crank but used the 2.0 heads with crower 272 cams, ferera dubble helix springs, ferera titanium retainers, titanium over sized valves, intake/exhaust and a port and polish. i wanted a higher cp ratio (9.1x1) and haven't been impressed with the avac so didn't retain the function. i swapped the trany for a 06 six speed, but then i switched to a 04 six speed because with a after market DCCD controller you can make a 04 all most 90% rear because its the only one that is a mechanical adjustable front diff. then i thought that the 05 rear looks better so that had to be changed, then the front wasn't eye catching anymore so i switched that to a 06 (smashed it and then had to switch it back for now, eta for another 06 front is 4 weeks). swapped the interior to a 04, then i didnt like the felt material that they used on the door cars so i switched them to swede leather, i changed the pillers inside to the limited black and i changed to the roof liner to a blue that matched the seats (lucky find at a fabric store). and the list goes on and on.

so with alot of free time on my hands and endliess sti part cars, you can make what ever you think is the best setup. i personally like having a light sti, with drive-by-cable (less lag by far) and every benefit of a sti and wrx.

so in the end its going to cost you about $300 ish to buy auto HVAC and the cluster was 300-450 depending on where you got it.

good luck and i hope to see others with auto HVAC and OAT readouts

^^^^ Are you talking the for climate control?
Or outside temperature sensors on Sti cluster? If your talking about that then it's located by the
radiator.

^^^I'm talking about mikeis300's statement here....

option two:

take out the temp censor for the cabin in the shroud

dremel your old shroud to fit the new censor.

run the wires to the cluster, one to the resistor from scoobymods and the other to the IR censor's ground.

It's not making much sense as to what he is trying to say.

i'm going to grab a center console shroud from a 04 sti and a OAT IR sensor so you can see the difference. would that be helpful?

^Got it for an REALLY REALLY good price. My problem is I shaved off that left plug, where that lil nub is. The plug won't go into the connector.....anyone have a DIY PHOTO writeup on this? I found the two wires that I need to clip.

I just thought that I would share this with everyone looking at this thread. I have a 06 STi cluster in my swapped RS and the buzzer for the shift light does work. I have not read this thread lately, but figured I would post it anyway. Pretty much what you have to do is after you set the RPM you want it to come on at it beeps once. After the beep the screen on the bottom left has 2 dashs, if you turn the nob again it should change to on and then the buzzer should work for the shift light. Not sure about the earlier clusters, but it does work for the 06 cluster. And again not sure if it was discovered already in this thread but just wanted to share the info.
