Salvi, on the trip knob, press it quickly twice, then it will show ILL.5 on the right LCD. Use the control knob, twisting it to the left to dimm the cluster illumination. After setting, standby a few seconds, and the setting will be confirmed, and the cluster will turn back to full brightness.

Once that is set, everytime you turn on the car, it will come up with full brightness, and when you turn on the lights, the cluster will dimm to your illumination settings.

Let me know if that works for you, otherwise, I'll post some pictures or even a video.

Marcel, I've tried that as well, but it doesn't work. Which year STI cluster do you have?

I'm wondering if the JDM STI is different then the usdm one. Anyone here have a USDM 04 STI cluster that has the manual dimmer setting working? If so, how did you achieve this?

Yeah, mine doesn't do that. It just goes from A to B and that's it. I wondering if the other people mentioning that it worked for them had an 05+ STI cluster instead.

Can anyone explain the below post? I understand that he's connecting the dimmer lever cables directly to the cluster. Someone asked why he didn't just spliced the wires from the cluster instead of cutting them and he mentions that one wire carries 5v. Where is it getting the 5v that he had to cut the wires? Does anyone have the wiring diagrams for just the dimmer?

Quote:
first thing you want to do is gather parts your going to need.

2 pins w/ wire to put into the b20 and b22 in your cluster.

2 blade connectors (optional, you could solder)

..............
optional steps
..............
you will have to choose if you want the center consol contols to dim or not. you can either wire them to be their brightest, dimmest, or use a switch to contoll them seperate.

so choose if you want to grab a switch or solder them

1st.
take the cluster out, then grab the B clip and plug in the 2 pins one in b22 and one in b20. run those down to the steering colum.

now take the bottom of you steering colum apart(there is one screw on the under side of the plastic. unscrew it then pull it away from the colum.

next look for the plug that goes into the headlight switch

This image has been resized. Click this bar to view the full image. The original image is sized 1024x768.

now flip the plug over. and you should see where it says 17 on one cornner and 9 on the other. this are the marking the wires in the plug. so start at 9 and move over to the number 11 an 12.

clip them and leave room for a wire connector to go on them. then connect 12 to b22 and 11 to b20

great job with that part now the dimmer works!!! if you turn it to max bright and it dimms then your wires are backwards, fix it.

now for the other side of the wires you clipped. this is where you can use a switch or not.

1st option: dont connect just tape both side then your done. the center consol will be at the lowest setting but its still very visible.

2nd option: connect them, now the're at the brightest setting which isnt all that bright in a subaru.

3rd option connect a switch between the two wires and then you can choose when its bright or not.

i did the 2nd choise

Hi guys and gals. I have a 2004 usdm sti cluster and the wiring harness the connects to the dash harness.

I would like to install it into my 2004 usdm forester xt manual "6spd"

I need to find the wiring diagrams for both ends of the harnesses of both car to decide what my best option is for the swap.

Any input would be great.

Im going to do some more research on things for myself as I have some free time.

Thanks in advance.

Some good info here, I wanted to bring this back from the dead as a read through...

Im on page 23 now. lol Now I just need to find the diagram for a 2004 usdm forester xt manual.

I also have the cluster harness that connects to the dash harness. Not sure if it would be easier to use for my swap. I need to find diagrams for both the 2004 usdm sti and my 04 usdm fxt manual. "Both ends of the cluster harnesses would be amazing.

I'm wondering this too. As far as I know, the only difference I can think of is the 180KM speedo on the JDM. Everything is should be the same i.e. sweep ceremony, beeper etc. I've gone through the whole thread to double check but can't get a definite answer. Don't really want to fork out the extra $$$ for a JDM.

If anyone knows any other difference between the USDM and JDM V8 STI cluster, please let us know.

I just put in a 05 STI cluster into my 05 WRX and all the info I have collected isn't the same.

When I put it in there was no constant buzzing, the DCCD light was off, the rear diff light was on, and my OTS was reading 122 degrees. I grounded B4 for the rear diff and it didn't do anything so I just taped the back of the cluster. My OTS still reads 122 degrees. I have auto HVAC so do you guys thing the cluster I got is busted?

Thank you for the valuable information on this thread (a bit messy). I swapped a 2002 STI TYPE RA JDM cluster to a 2007 EDM WRX, everything worked except for the abs warning light which was solved with the relay to invert signal polarity.

To build on that last post, which clusters are red and defi style? Really liking the idea of red and the sweep, just having a hard time finding real pictures of these gauges as photobucket just committed suicide. I'm about halfway through the whole thread but it seems people dont explain how their clusters look.

If your drivetrain swap means a 6mt sti swap, thats great news. Your speedometer will work just fine, because the 6mt gear box uses a different pinion, which gives you different speed display between wrx x sti

Default 2006 Wrx with V9 sti cluster swap

My RPM suddenly got dark, the arrow that points at your RPM still works as well as the STI symbol below. But the RPM Tac is no longer illuminated. Any suggestions? I already checked the connections of the 3 green plugs, they all fit in. I will pull again just to double check that all the wires are in the pin connectors as they should be. Also, it seems like a circuit might have gone bad because all 7 or so of the smd lights that illuminate this section of the cluster are just not turning on. But all the other lights do. Any help would be great! Thanks

Everything looks okay. So I have no idea why my cluster is not illuminating in the middle.

Just swapped in a cluster from an 06 STI into my 07 WRX TR. Everything works (shift light, sweep, etc) and I followed the same steps as most of the guys did:

-Trimmed left connector

- Ground B4 pin ( I removed C9 for the buzzer from the connector and installed in B4)

-moved B28 to B16 for cruise light

Pretty straightforward, the temp is only off by a few degrees and the car doesn't even have the auto HVAC so considering it isn't stuck at a certain temp like I have seen, I can't complain. Didn't install a potentiometer for the dimmer because it's really not bad.

Couldn't really find any results for this swap on the WRX TR so I thought I'd give my 0.02

Default STi cluster swap FAQ - can we get one started?

Anyone else still doing this?

I have an 04 USDM Sti cluster in my 04 USDM WRX wagon and have installed the rear diff temp sensor wiring along with DCCD from iWire for my 6 speed now Im stuck on the ambient temp sensor

I wired a 5v regulator and 2.2k resistor but when I got to the B plug on the cluster there’s no pin in B28 like I expected there to be and a pin in B8 which I didn’t expect to find ugh what’s happening here am I reading wrong

I found a good write up from 04 on scooby mods but I don’t have a B28 yellow and green tracer wire?

I believe the top row third column over from the right to be B28 but there’s nothing there and seeing as I need 12v power from the dash side of this I’m a little stuck here

Maybe the wagons are different?

You have to add three wires to the b connector and take power from the a connector.

I build a harness that makes it almost PNP.
Here's the diy I did.

Default Help!!!!

So I am having problems with my 02 Wrx cluster gauge in general. But my speedometer is bouncing up and down as I’m driving above 45mph. I thought maybe speedometer sensor but my buddy is telling me it’s he whole cluster. I think he’s right bc my gas gauge does not work right after I fill her up it drops dramatically even tho I get the same mpt. My thermostat gauge also bounces from my sub going off same for my speedometer. Well I’ve been driving without music just to make sure I have everything reading right and now my speedometer is bouncing just while driving same with my thermostat(I’ve checked the head gaskets with a pressure test done by Subaru) The thermostat will also bob up and down not like a lot but just a little bit almost like a tiny wobble barely can tell it’s even doing that. Do you guys think it’s a cluster or the speedometer and some other stuff. I really don’t have money to play with since college just started up and I’m kinda looking for a job. If the cluster is the issue I’m just going to buy my buddy’s sti v7 cluster for 180.

Hello guys so I did the sti cluster swap into my 02 Wrx a couple months back. I think 5. The abs light is colored out so I wouldn’t have to deal with it I sniped the wire so the buzzing would go away. Well yesterday my brake light came on I thought nothing of it but that it was -11 degrees and maybe that caused it. I stopped and checked calipers all good. Then I checked the break fluid it looked fine. After that I checked the break fluid it looked fine. Then I was like maybe the ebrake was up but it wasn’t. Has anyone else had problems with the light coming on with doing the swap?
