Which cluster do you have? I got my v8 prodrive cluster temp to work on the bench with the sensor.

I just swapped in a 07 STi cluster into my 07 2.5i impreza,

1. Buzzer comes on and stays on, cut wire C9 to fix this.
2. Rear Diff Light Comes on
3. Cruise Control works.
4. Temp Guage DOES work.
5. MPH is off by 2-3MPH (verified with scangauge2)
6. Shift light/buzzer works
7. Dimmer switch is INOP (my cluster was already at full brightness)

Had to trim the bottom plastic rails on my left side (connector A) green connector plug to get it to fit, just use some dikes, took me literally 10 seconds.

Everything else works great.

Just curious if anyone can give a quick answer on what I would need to do and if a V7 JDM STi cluster will work in my 04 WRX. Im in canada so the KPH works out perfect. Found one for a good price but want to make sure it will work. Ive read a ton of the posts but theres like 50 pages to go through.

Hey all!

I've started on my conversion and am stuck.
I have, from what I am aware of, a 2003 GDB WRX Sti (JDM).
Everything is wired up, but the DCCD light, Air bag light and R.Diff Light stays on.

The R.Diff light is simply needing B4 to be taped over, that would be easy if I had the B4 wire going into the pin.

But what pins do I need to tape over to get the DCCD light to be turned off and the Air bag light?

Image time! Please help out!

----------------------------------
-Cluster plugs in without any modifications to the plugs.
-Outside air temp works ONLY on WRXs with auto HVAC.
-Cruise indicator light wire must be moved from B28 to B16.
-Illumination levels are set by pressing the odometer reset until "ill" appears in the odometer display.
-Shift light and alarm are set by turning the set stalk on the left by the temp display.

Note: I did not have any issues with any buzzing in my install. Some have reported their clusters buzzing. 06+ STi cluster users have reported the buzzing stopping after cutting wire C9.

Indicator lights which remain on:
-I/C waterspray: tape over or ground
-Rear diff temp: tape over or ground
-DCCD light: tape over
-ABS: The ABS light will not work correctly since there is wiring differences in the ABS between the 04 and 05 models both on the car and in the cluster itself. I did some comparisons between the tech sheets on the 04 and 05 and the voltage the cluster sees between both years is reversed. Your ABS light will work "backwards" as in stay off for 2 seconds then turn on vs staying on for 2 sec and going out. It'll be annoying but you can put tape over the light.

There's currently no known way to fix the ABS light problem with the 04 STi in 05 WRX setup. The only way would be to use an 05 STi cluster, but you'd end up moving more wires and having to modify one of the harness plugs in order for it to fit the STi cluster.
Did this tonight - '04 STi cluster into 2005 Saabaru Aero.

Plugged right in. I did this into an '03 WRX a while ago and it was a much bigger pain in the ass mostly because the wires didn't have as much slack.

Lights on:
-R diff
-DCCD
-ABS

Sweeps, shift light works, adjustable illum works, and outside temp works.

Going to re-read the posts near the end of the thread about constantly-on relays and all that jazz hoping to fix the ABS light, and ground the R diff sensor.

Oh here's the diagram guys.

This works for my 2004 WRX using a 2004 USDM STi. Use at your own risk.....I'm not responsible if you damage something.

So I've got mine setup exactly like this (2004 WRX with 2004 STI cluster) and my OAT now works but it reads ~16 deg F too high all of the time. It's just far enough off to not really be useful. The sensor I bought was a random eBay out of an 05 Outback; I've got the 04 STI PN on order and will try that tomorrow before trying other things.

I have a working diff temp light and (mostly) working OAT now Now for DCCDPro

UPDATE: I ordered up the traditional 04 STI OAT sensor and it was indeed different than the one I received from the Outback. Temps now read within ~6 deg F (to the high side), which I can probably tolerate. I have a FMIC and what not so I mounted the sensor on the core support / hood latch upright, right behind the grill emblem to try to ensure it's in fresh air while rolling.

Sorry if this has been asked but has anyone done this on an rs/2.5i? I have I think an 05 cluster laying around from a friends car, and would love to get rid of the green in my 07

Default V9 Spec C 2006

I swapped a 2006 Spec C Cluster [ METRIC: 260 Km/H Speedo / °Celcius ] in my USDM WRX 2006.

I avoided cutting wires and modifying the plug by simply using a second set of the 3 plugs "A-B-C" - and fabricated connecting wires to the existing harness.
Switch and Play ;-)

1) DCCD Light is ON
2) Rear Differential Light is ON
3) I moved B28 to B16 (Cruise Indicator Light)
Light is NOT illuminted, but Cruise is fully functional
Set Indicator Light is also not illuminated
4) Buzzer is not coming up - C9 is connected (if disconnected Speedo INOP)
5) My car is a TR Model with Manual AC, as expected Temperature shows a
constant 6° Celsius. As described prevoiusly, there is a 5V external current
supply shown in the wiring schematics, that I will set up next - let's see...
6) Ground B4 not performed (Differential Light - See #2)

Some Warning Lights, as Oil Pressure are not verified working, cause there is sufficient Oil Pressue etc. Anything else works fine. Still outrunning my speedo a bit (260 Km/H) but happy!

quick question, I've poured through this thread and have most of what I need I think.

Car is a 2005 wrx wagon. Already has a 2004 sti cluster installed. Issue is cruise control, I can hear it clicking in the dash/column, but the light does not come on and it doesn't engage.

I am aware that B28 should be moved to B16 in this swap, so I opened up the cluster. I am looking for the supposedly yellow wire w/green stripe to be in the B28 spot, and I want to move that to B16. HOWEVER, when I get in there, I see no wire in the B28 spot, and also no wire in the B16 spot. So, I go looking for mr yellow w/ green stripe. I find him in B5.

I would love to throw him into B16 and hope all my issues are solved, but I have done things hastily before...

Any thoughts? What is up with B5? Sorry for resurrecting this guy..

I've read through most of this long post... has no one done an STI cluster in a non-WRX? Example.... my ugly 2002 Impreza OBS gauges. No, I don't want the same black WRX gauges.... I'd rather see something nicer to look at. Heck, I'd even take aftermarket gauges but there seems to be no real love for anything but WRX and STI's.

I'd love to know if anyone had done a non-WRX install.

Cheers-
Steve

Hey guys . Sorry im new and recently purchased a used bugeye. I did however come with an STI guage. im aware and have dome research regarding the other issues but one i cannot seem to figure out even with the sesrch button is the tachometer. At idle the gauge reads "0" . but as soon as i accelerate it picks right up. Is the cluster bad? Is there a wire i need to cut or fix for this issue. Any input would be helpful. Thank you in advanced.

I've read every page on here and see that for an 05 STi to 04 WRX sometimes the ABS light stays on and I need to wire a relay. I don't recall seeing what type of relay I need. Can someone tell me what to ask for from say a RadioShack?

Does anyone have a copy of a code dumped from an eeprom chip for a USDM STI cluster.

I have a cluster that the eeprom chip got erased and I am tiring to fix it and figure out how to change the mileage.

I allready have a way to reprogram the 02-07 jdm/edm sti and usdm non sti clusters. I am trying to add the usdm sti clusters to the list of clusters I can do.

There are 2 basic ways:
1. Buy an expensive unit designed for this purpose, some cars can be corrected via the OBD11 socket, Subaru can not. This is what some professionals do.
2. Rewrite the EEPROM chip using your PC as shown below.

You will need:
PC (you have already)
EEPROM writing tool with related software. Several are available on fleabay, look something like this....

Mileage calculator software. This will tell you the necessary HEX code for the required mileage. Can get this at www.tachosoft.com and maybe others.

So you have the required tools, what to do.
Remove cluster, look on the rear circuit board for this chip
(93c56 is my 2004 STI, others may differ)

This will need to be removed

With your EEPROM writer connected to the PC, insert the EEPROM chip into the designated slot. Fire up the EEPROM software, at this point it would be wise to save a copy, in case you f'up.

Next with the tachosoft software, input the necessary information. The software will generate the required HEX code, and tell you where to edit.

Save the edited code to the EEPROM, refit chip to cluster, check your shiny new mileage.
Even simpler, if both clusters have the same chip, I have been told that swapping them MAY work.

Thats it, tell your friends, rinse and repeat....
Hello all, this is my first post and I'm a new Impreza owner so please bear with me!

I've recently bought a UK Spec 2005 WRX STi (blobeye), and I've just managed to get hold of some dials from a JDM Blobeye which have got the red backlighting and opening sweep action etc. (I believe the JDM dials are same as the USDM dials in the STi - just us in the UK stuck with the poverty green backlit ones with no sweep!)

In regards to the above instructions, would it not be possible for me to simply swap the chip pictured above from my UK clocks into the JDM clocks to "transfer" my mileage over - or is there more to it than I understand.

I'm trying to locate somebody local who can change my mileage for me, but if swapping the chip works - that would be an easier solution for sure.

Thanks in advance,
Fonz

The way I under stand it, NO you cant.

The auto sweep clusters use a surface mount chip (SOIC)

and the others use a thought mount chip (dip).

Thanks Mr Beefcake, I'm sure what would have been apparent as soon as I got both Clusters in front of me - but it's good to know now as I can progress my search for somebody to reprogram the chip for me!

Probably a long shot on a US based forum - but if anybody knows of a company in the North of the UK who can do this - let me know!

ya, not sure about that. I am working to figuring out how to program those, but the 04 STi cluster I got is messed up. So I am looking for another auto sweep cluster to mess with, but I cannot be spending $200-300 on a cluster that I may mess up.
I am trying to find one that's got broken dials or something so I can pick it up cheep.

Out of interest, once the dials are plugged into the car - can the chip be reprogrammed via the car's serial interface port?

If the dealer for example needed to change the mileage on a car - would they be dismantling the cluster, unsoldering the chip and reprogramming or would they just plug into the diagnostics port and do it that way?
