The Mazdas do make 250hp and 320tq, so not bad I suppose.

RDX is 272/280. But Tech/Advance takes you to $46. Not sure how much dealers are negotiating on them, but you might be able to get close to $40.

That's decent power. Yeah probably just under 40k with deals. Maybe CPO route is a better option there. The transmission issue recently makes me a bit wary though.

This might be what my wife replaces her MDX with in a year. If I were to go Toyota it would likely be the top level V6 Camry.

You got to take the charger off your list, it’s a 25 year old Benz.

On your original list I’d buy an Avalon, if it could be had for those dollars.

Yeah, I hear ya, looks wise the Charger is just tired. The Avalon is really nice, but just looks boring vs the Camry if going Toyota. I have been so turned off by 4cylinder turbo automatics driving one the past 3 years, but that's a BMW that I've hated. I should probably at least try others.

Why do you want a V6? I get V6s in tiny sports cars where they're the big mean engine option and their compact size is for a good reason. For everything else, they're the consolation prize for people who think 6 is automatically better than 4. Inline 6s and flat 6s are at least balanced. V6s need big power-sucking balance shafts. The only car made better by a V6 on your list is the Camry, and only because Toyota don't turbo (which used to be the only reason people wanted V6s). The Accord 2.0T is faster and more fun.

Get the Scat Pack V8 if you're going to buy based on the engine. V8s are a no-brainer. Buy them now before they're gone. A 25yo Mercedes E-Class is a better starting point than an 8 year old Ford CD4 platform (Edge).

Am I missing any on my list?
Ford Edge ST
Toyota Camry XLE V6
Dodge Charger Scat Pack
Genesis G70 3.3
Kia Telluride - probably too expensive and too big
Acura TLX V6 type S Too expensive and dont' want to wait on it
Chevy Blazer Too expensive
Toyota Avalon - meh
Nissan Maxima - meh
Lexus ES350
Lexus IS300
Infinity Q50
Wildcard possibility - Mustang Mach-E Premium

Should I start a separate thread?
Marauder, my bro.

And feel free to hijack since I'm actually not considering any car shenanigans! Project Mountain House first on my financial want list, and I don't plan on doing anything with that until at least May so that's that.

It really comes down to having driven a 4 cylinder turbo automatic the past 3 years that is so unresponsive I've drive it in sport mode exclusively and even that sort of sucks. Just turned off to them, but again, maybe I should drive a few before I eliminate them. The V6 Camry is probably the top of my list TBH, and meets all of my criteria.

If you are worried about transmission problems, write Edge ST off your list.
I second Camry or Highlander, maybe even RAV4 Prime.

Mazda CX-9? Too expensive?

I would vote against the Edge ST. We bought a 19 ST off the showroom floor last year in March when they were out but not as common as they are now, so likely an early production model.

It's had a fair share of electrical gremlins. They were all fixed under warranty, but honestly, I worry about this car long term. We've said if it has 1 mroe major electrical failure/issue, we're going to get rid of it.

It looks great, drives great. Makes all kinds of great noises. Twin Turbo V6 is peppy. Gas Mileage sucks. We get ~20MPG at mostly highway driving.

4cyl turbos in anything bigger than a civic suck on the highway as a driving experience.

I wouldn't be a fan of the Camry V6 because FWD, but I don't know if you care about that or not.

But they don't, at least not all of them. This is a pervasive opinion but it's really not true anymore. A modern 1.6-2.0l turbo engine is phenomenal. Anecdotal I know, but... I have driven 1.9 or 2.0l turbo VAG products for the last 14 years and would never go back to anything else until I buy my first EV. I travel a lot and have driven most all other brands and engines and every time I come home the driving experience of my Skoda Octavia 1.9tdi making 160hp and 320nm or Golf GTD with 240hp and 600nm dead reliably and cleanly is the best experience for me. I have literally had to do nothing other than normal service for the entire time I have owned them, 5+ years. Super comfortable, tow a 1500lb trailer with ease, 50+mpg and when you can leave it in 6th and accelerate from 40 to 120 in a relatively short amount of time, what else do you need =).
That said, they are both going soon and an EV is in my future. I'm ready.

you need to try out some different 4 cylinders. my wife's A4 cruises at 100 mph effortlessly at 2,200 rpm.

You're comparing a car with a 75hp bump over stock. My Forester XT even with a tune and muffler delete, wasn't great on the highway mainly because of aerodynamics.

A V6 (and especially a TT V6) is just going to deliver a better driving experience, and not a huge difference in fuel economy.

it wasn't great on the highway because its a subaru. they have narrow power band's, not enough gears, and the final drives are just too short. some of these modern turbo 4's make many n/a V6's feel anemic. just a boat load of torque right off of idle.

A Forester XT with a muffler delete will be terrible on the highway for every other reason than power. You need to try something else and reset your calibration on this.

If you remotely knew how restrictive the factory exhaust was, and or bothered to listen to a video, you'd know it by no means has highway drone or resonance.

My '15 was a good car. And if you just wanted to get from point A to B on the highway it was okay. Fuel economy at 70mph and above was pretty terrible compared to the EPA rating.
