Sold my B450, Ryzen 3600, and Radeon 5700 for $1000. That's almost twice the price I paid for them 2 years ago.

Thanks guys! I used to run a multi-monitor setup, and this is basically just two 1440p 27" monitors side-by-side but a little slicker and no bezel in the middle of your view. The FancyZones app within PowerToys (a free addon to windows 10) has been key to getting the most productivity out of it, as you can create any size windows/regions you want and then snap apps to them. And widescreen gaming is pretty cool w/ the right game. It's been awesome w/ Dirt Rally 2.0 and once I have the time I'll give Cyberpunk another go, now that I have a 3080 to power it. I bet RDR 2 would be pretty sweet on this display too.

I've been out of the PC building game for so long that when I got a new PC several months ago to play Cyberpunk 2077...I've noticed a new thing we never had back in the day for builds that I was I had.
Modular PSUs!! Cable management is so much easier with these! |

Several 7870's too, I think. Like the 1050 Ti of it's day. Quote:
And yet, the industry STILL hasn't made the case header interface a standardized plug. Installing Windows 10 is also wicked fast with a USB3 stick and an NVME drive. Probably ~5 min from start to logon screen. |

The fact that you can't just run a single standard cable from your case to your motherboard is an ongoing pain in the ass.

On my next build, I'll probably need one of my kids to help plug them in cause I won't be able to see the tiny labels, hah.

Well, it's been almost 8 years since I started this last build with my 4770K and a GTX 770. Some upgrades along the way and delidding/overclocking really helped eek every last bit out of it but it's time to move on.
No 30 series but I was able to pickup a 2080 from a friend of the wife for $550. Should be better than the 1070 for 3440x1440. Got a 5600x, x570, 16GB 3600MHz RAM and a 1TB 980 SSD to go with it. Excited to be able to play some newer games at better refresh rates than my 1070 could muster. Gonna use my old 4770K/1070 for my arcade build . |

So this is pretty far away from a PC master build, but....
So we have a old I5 with decent hardware (for 8 years ago). It was running windows 8.1, but the OS files got corrupt. It's really not worth upgrading, or buying a copy of 10 to fix things but I hate to just throw it away since it seems the hardware is just fine. I figure I can just install Linux and repurpose it. Any ideas on what I can put this to use for? We already have media PC (Plex). I can make it a Arcade Machine, but in truth the stuff for the Raspberry PI seems to be much better sorted and the accessories are cheaper. So what other ideas does the group have? I have a raspberry pi set to do a smart mirror type display on an older monitor. You could do something like that?
You could make it into a plex server? |
