What model Harmon Kardon do you have? I recently sold mine to my girl's mom, I didn't feel like it was pushing enough to my Kef 3005.2's. I like it, though. I was pondering if I needed to go a little higher on the model foodchain.

I really like it. It's a very good approximation of true surround sound. People who hear it for the first time usually get freaked out when they hear someone talking "from the other room". It's not perfect (as my room isn't perfect to support it), but the overall quality of the sound is very high. The amplifiers are balanced perfectly with the 21 speakers, so you can bring it to 100% volume and have no distortion. It's best experienced with dvds or hdtv content that have a 5.1 digital track.

If I could have done an in-wall install, I would have, but this is the next best thing. Now all I have to do is not buy the 4000 series model... drool

I have a AVR 225 that IMO does a good job at driving my Paradigm Titans (sensitivity 93 dB, room efficiency 90 dB). If I had to choose a replacement I don't know what I would purchase.

Sony 52-inch SXRD XBR
Panasonic DMP-BD30 Bluray Player
Sony STR-DE898 Amp/Reciever
AR Speakers with an Klipsch center - I really need to get new speakers.
and an old Pioneer Laserdisc player and Sony VHS player.

This is an earlier picture and doesn't show the Blu-ray player. In spite of still having some tapes, I never use the VHS any more. I think I'll hook up my older Sony 5-disc carousel DVD player instead. Good for watching TV series, just load all the discs and go.

If any of you have experience, how much difference does a 1080p TV make when watching hi-def discs? The SXRD is 1080i.

well the size of the picture is in direct negative correlation to the size of my ego concerning theater systems.

I agree with you partially. Yeah I know I do need to do some cable management. Things get a bit messy but I stay pretty busy and haven't had the time to do it yet.

Being only 19 years old (started when I was 17-18 building up the room) and the budget I had it took me a long time to build up everything in that room. Worked my ass off for everything you see in the pictures. Here is how the room has started.

26" Sony Bravia

40" Sharp Aquos

Few more plans I have left for the room is.

--Rope lighting above the tv.
--Coffee table
--Framed movie posters on walls
--B&W DS7 surrounds.

Great. Ive had it for almost a year now and not any issues with it what so ever. I still need to get somebody to come out and calibrate it but I love it thus far.

i believe/thought all SXRD's were 1080p. i remember when i was looking at them when they first came out that was a huge thing about them.

cool, that type of setup has always been tempting to me for family room tv watching.

Since I had these photos out for a question I posted in AVSForum...

Uh... gear list is pretty unspectacular. Onkyo 674 receiver, HD-A2, Wii, Apple TV, Advent 4 mains, some crappy Cambridge Audio center, 10" JBL active sub beside the couch, crappy Cambridge surrounds. Contemplating upgrading to Paradigm 330 LCR.

I built the cabinet a couple weekends ago.

Thanks! Jen hates it - thinks it looks too 1970's. It's not quite done yet. Will be putting in a bit of moulding on the bottoms, need to caulk all the corners, etc. I just like it because we gained so much more space in the living room. Originally my idea was to make the whole thing built-in so that it would sort of start with a large shelf on the top going all the way across and into the window wells, but the TV would have had to be lower and Jen's not happy with it even at this height.

Really? I think it looks really good and totally sleekens (not sure if that's a word) up the room.

The thing you can't see from these photos is that the cabinets for the audio stuff are at a bit of a funky angle (not parallel to the wall) so it does definitely have an unconventional 2001-A-Space-Oddessy feel to it. I'll take another photo so you can see what I'm talking about. But yeah, I think it cleaned up that space nicely.

That looks spectacular, Sam. It really does open up the room.

Nice work! Did you do all the work at home? Where do you keep your tools?

Yeah, did it all here. It was pretty ridiculous - had sort of a "clean room" setup in the guest bathroom and did all the cutting in there. Had a tarp setup over the door so I could cut the longer boards in there. Used my table saw with a vacuum on it to keep the dust down. Did it in melamine particular board to keep the price and time down - took about 3 days. The tools are spread out between our bedroom closet for the stuff I use "often" and the rest are in our storage unit in the basement.

OriginalSin - Yeah, we live in a 117 year old Cotton Mill that was renovated in 2004.

On what, the TV? Nope, it's facing the "right" way, and the TV is a very bright LCD with a flare-resistant coating on it.

Thanks! Hopefully it should only get better. Will be replacing the speakers with something more in keeping with the rest of the setup, we're going to refine the plant situation so the corners aren't quite as awkward looking, etc.
