In my HT if I have the sub volume more than about 40% I'll get a headache pretty quick too. 'Tis a good problem to have.

Okay. So here's the issue. Got four speakers. All are big, but two are VERY big. The two biggest ones - about 36" tall and about 65lbs each - are going up in the front of the room on the floor, on either side of the TV.
The other two are also large, but not as large - approximately 26" high by 14" wide by 12" deep and 47lbs each. I remember many years ago my father had these mounted on the wall of our living room, and indeed there are L-shaped brackets on them that indicate they could be mounted horizontally on a wall. But is that what I want to do? So here's the room layout. Sorry for the small pic, I ripped it right from the leasing documents. Room is 9 ft wide by 14 ft long. I have an L-shaped couch, the short end of which is going up against the window. The top right corner in the image is not useable as I have a fireplace covering the diagonal space between the edge of the window and the edge of the wall. The short end of the couch is exactly as long as the north wall (6 feet after accounting for the fireplace) and as such I cannot put anything on either side of it on the floor. The east wall is open to the dining room, and the south wall is where the television and two front channel speakers would be. So - get some big beefi mounts for the other two speakers and stick em on the wall, or what? |

It's an apartment or the decision would be easier. Market didn't cooperate with my house hunting plans.
Ceilings are tall enough that I could mount them out of the way, I think. |

Alright, well, I've got it mostly set up - I just can't decide if I want the second set of large speakers wall-mounted behind the TV for a truly preposterous blast of forward-facing sound, or if I want to mount them on walls behind the tv, closer to the ceiling, one on the diagonal wall and one directly across from it. Also thinking about putting the big Genesis speakers on some sort of acoustic insulator/riser to limit vibration into the floor/my nice neighbor's ceiling.

So I am thinking of replacing my old Pioneer VSX-1018 AV receiver with something newer, I bought it back pre-2009. It lacks HDMI ARC, so audio streamed from the TV is being handled by the optical cable. So I feel like I am def missing some audio. I can get Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD to function when I have my BD player plugged in, but I rarely do movies in that fashion these days. I do run a RCA to 3.5mm jack to play audio via my phone
The tv is a 50in Toshiba 4k Fire that I bought from Best Buy in March of 2020, so it has the standard assortment of inputs, HDMI, HDMIArc, RCA, Optical. I was looking at something like the Onkyo TX-SR393 It's got the Atmos and the 4K. But, than I would probably have to update all my speakers, since most of that stuff was purchased circa 2005. JBL Venue Series Stadium 8-Inch 3-Way Speaker with the corresponding Center, and a Velodyne sub(Fry's sale from back in the day) and some older Polk t-15 books I use as rears. I guess my question is: Replace the AV with something more modern OR replace the speaker set up(Klipsches look nice). Or do both. Fun fact...I have been hauling this stuff around the country since I left Cali back in '12. |

Just know that optical supports up to D+, though your receiver might not do D+ over optical. In other words, you might not hear a difference once you switch to new equipment.

motor - if you're happy with the speakers no need to replace them. Speakers are highly subjective.
I've got a pair of 20 year old Paradigms that I absolutely love. "Someday" I'll replace with a pair of Dynas. Just gotta find out when aschen will be on vacation for a week. |

Denon "In-Command Series" AVR-X2100W. Practically brand new, power cable, remote...sans the set up mic. And I paid $25 for it (Image uploader isnt workking...) |

Maybe. I can get the BD, and BT to work on this thing. But, I can't get HDMI Arc to show my tv's streaming menus. All it will show me is the Denon Setup graphic display. I am thinking of doing a Factory Reset.

I've currently got the speaker wire strewn upon my floor at my new home, but I want to hide it a bit more, and make it not a tripping hazard, or a dust collection zone. should I get some raceways and double sided tape and hide it on the crown molding? should I get some of that flat speaker wire that is adhesive? I'm gonna sort through the last few pages, but there's a lot of data to consume here. |

I figured it out. I had to turn on the HDMI-CEC option on my TV. My Toshiba FIRE TV's remote isn't all that versatile for things not related to Amazon

I've had luck in lots of the rental places I lived in my younger days when the flooring was carpet. I just used the eraser end of a pencil to shove it in the gap. |

That makes it tougher.
I've used some of that channel that sticks to the wall to hide a power cable and ethernet cord for a wall mounted TV before and it looked reasonably well. I painted it to match the wall before installing it. This is the one I used but there's a bunch of different ones an Amazon. |

I would get some white colored speaker wire and just tape it to the bottom trim.
Future upgrades would be to install wire inside walls though. Is that a door behind the curtains? That might complicate passing cables through the floor. |

it is set up for it, but in the last house, the TV was mounted higher on the wall, and any time I'd watch a movie, my neck would be sore from straining to look up. plus, we won't use the fireplace frequently, but the heat from them is bad for electronics, which is probably not really an issue for as infrequently as we'll use the fireplace.
behind and to the left from where I took the photo is the kitchen, and dining area, so it's nice to have that there while doing meal prep as well. mounting it above the fireplace would make the mantle mostly useless, and the wall where the TV is mounted would have been pretty useless. now we can mount things on the mantle without worrying that they will block the TV. |

Got it. Considering your less than ideal placement for audio, have you considered just using a sound bar with wireless satellites?

why not this... hear me out... *takes a whiff*
TV on same location but using one of those retractable tv mounts. That way you can pull it out and aim it towards the seating area. Couch sectional on back wall, where the wood furniture is at. When watching tv, tv comes out. TV Gear? Under TV, with a larget wall furniture to hide the AVR gear and some decorations to keep wife happy. The wood furniture? idk man, im just high. It is a difficult room. |
