OMGHi2U 80s RomCom Rant

^For lack of a better title..something I was thinking about last night.

I was watching Footloose (1984) and it occurred to me that the Women of 80s RomCom type movies went on to have less notoriety than their male counterparts, for example: Kevin Bacon vs Lori Singer (Footloose '84,) Patrick Dempsey vs Amanda Petersen (Can't Buy Me Love '87,) and John Cusack vs Ione Sky (Say Anything, '89.) Exception to the rule is: Lea Thompson, Mary Stuart Masterson v Eric Stoltz in Some Kind of Wonderful, 1987. I guess the exception to the rule is anything with Eric Stoltz, because I remember Laura Dern being in Mask (1985) more than I remember him.

Extra bonus...I like this song

Lori Singer was awesome in The Man with One Red Shoe.

She was in a few other movies as well.

But I suspect the fact she was a trained Cellist, Youngest graduate of Juliard, and daughter of an orchestra conductor, means she was also likely always drawn to music more than acting.

And her brother Marc Singer (Beastmaster) definitely didn't do as well as his female costar Tanya Roberts.

How about Splash? Best 80's rom-com ever? Daryl Hannah stole the show.

Yeah, she totally eclipsed Tom Hanks. And she was great in Roxanne. Totally buried Steve Martin.

Kevin Bacon went on to save a town from graboids. What did his female counterparts do?
