This dude was straight up chilling there. Opened trunk, closed trunk - wait a darn second was there something there? Open trunk - gaaaaah.

Didn't move until I got the courage to grab a leaf branch and brushed him off. He barely scampered away.

Can't tell if Huntsman (I mean they arent in San Francisco are they?) or a Wolf (silhouette and legs don't match).
How long is it going to take for the insurance check to show up from what I assume was an "accidental" car fire immediately after finding that critter?

In hindsight, I do wish I had tools or apparatus handy to capture this dude - especially as he does seem to be a Hunstman.

I'm perfectly ok with cohabiting with spiders and rarely if ever, kill them. I'm always looking to move them outside the house and if I know they are harmless (cellar / daddy long legs) will let them go about doing their thing and capturing bug around the house.

You're not suppose to help them out. Just pour fine on that and be done with it.

That old chestnut about Ozzyland being a place that's f**ken chockers with deadly - or at the very least, scary - critters just keeps popping up on this website. To be honest, that's because although our bewdiful island home is full of critters others might find a bit disconcerting, we bloody love ***8216;em. Snakes, sharks, crocs, scorpions, centipedes, drop-bears, jellyfish, backpacker murderers and spiders; we reckon all of ***8216;em are a vital part of our ecology. So when we discovered that Bush Heritage Australia had found whole colonies of huntsman spiders hanging out in writhing packs, we had to share***8230;

So about an hour ago, I went to clean out the pool skimmer. As I reached down, something in the skimmer reached up:

She was a beaut***8230;

And for those who like snakes, this was off to the side.

I moved the spider to a safe location, and waved hi to the ratsnake as it went on it's merry way.

This lady spent an entire summer just outside the door to my workshop, right at face level.

I placed a couple of buckets of sand just below the web so I'd have to walk around the web. Otherwise I'd have walked into that web every time.

I also used to feed her. Those darn yellow biting flies would be buzzing around me, so if I swatted one and stunned it, into the web it went.

Found this young lady in our pool. This is by far the biggest spider I have ever seen in NC.

To give a sense of scale, that is a 30" pool brush. She was at least 6" from leg tip to leg tip.

A bunch of similar spiders were under the cinder blocks I was moving around last year. They were not aggressive at all, and just curled into a ball when startled. I let one crawl all over my hand.

We also had a bunch of cross orb weavers around the house last year. It was fun seeing them maintain their webs.

I used to be super uncomfortable with spiders but after deciding to learn more about them I'm a huge fan. Such cool animals.
