when, if you guys take your car to the dealerships
do you guys try to go back stock as far as mods?
i got coils, wheels, short shifter, HIDs...etc on my car right now and i'm thinking of going to the dealership to have them fix my AC since its pretty much blowing out warm air =_= so should i just leave all my mods as is? i mean, since some warranties are already voided i should just not bother? this also goes for if i go for oil changes or anything else... thanks in advance! Jonathan

It's really up to you. If you believe there is a failure that is covered by your warranty, by all means, get it fixed. Otherwise, if it's something minor, I wouldn't bother taking all that stuff off because it becomes quite a hassle. Not to mention, you'll probably need an alignment after you take the coils off.

if your warranty is already expired theres no reason I can see to go back to stock.

so for something like the AC fix, i probably shouldn't even worry about it? |

Hello, I work as a Dealership tech for a different car brand. The type of mods that you have listed should not void any warranty except for the parts that you have changed, and "maybe" any part directly effected by one of those parts.
IE an aftermarket wastegate actuator does not automatically void an engine warranty, But if the engine fails then you are going to have a hard time convincing the warranty admin that they should cover the repairs. I saw many SRT-4 neons like this. Also the better customer you are the more likely the dealership will look the other way when repairs are needed. |

I believe that under the Magnuson-Moss warranty act the dealership has to prove that said part say for instance, wheels, directly affected what you were wanting fixed under warranty, in the case your A/C, which unless they're Johnnie Cochran, I dont see them being able to do, but say you're motor blows and you're running a 100-shot of nitrous through it then you'll run into problems, someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Thats mostly correct. Although the real decision of warranty rejection is with the district rep, the dealer can only make a recommendation.
Couple things to remember, the Tech is the one who usually finds the offending "performance parts" so those are the ones you want to get on the good side of. If the only time you ever bring your car in is when you have a bunch of seemingly "whinerbaby" warranty concerns don't expect much of a blind eye. The biggest thing that you can really do is have your maintenance done at the store. With my brand the our manager actually has the ability to extend warranty on a case by case basis. (I just replaced an engine after the warranty expired, but since they were a good customer the manager was able to cover the repairs with only a $200.00 deductible) |

If the dealer gives you a hard time about fixing your A/C under warranty because of any of the mods you listed, then (1) complain to the district and/or SOA, and (2) find another dealer.

dealer shouldn't give any issues honestly ive talked to about 3 different subaru dealers and have a friend who works at one and they usually dont care unless like some mod you put on caused failure to something else... like lowered the car and cracked the oil pan or somethign stupid like that
