Default New Details For The 2023 Ford Bronco Raptor Confirm What We Already Knew

2023 Ford Bronco Raptor: Here Are Some Exclusive Details

Quote:

We’ve known for some time now that Ford is planning a Raptor variant of the all-new Bronco. In fact, we got as close to an official confirmation as we’ll ever get of this being the case just last month. Having spoken to those familiar with the project, Ford Authority has learned some exclusive details about the upcoming 2023 Ford Bronco Raptor.

First and foremost, the range-topping Bronco model is being planned in both two- and four-door configurations. However, it’s possible that only the four-door model will ultimately be brought to market.

Up front, the Bronco Raptor will feature a revised front fascia, with a unique bumper treatment. Being the ultimate expression of the new Bronco family, the off-roader will also have noticeably higher ground clearance with a wider stance compared to even the most range-topping Wildtrak model.

That added width will be wrapped in significantly larger and more pronounced fenders hiding a set of wheels that will have a resemblance to the units used on the F-150 Raptor.

The rear end of the 2023 Ford Bronco Raptor will follow along in the footsteps of the front, bringing a revised rear fascia with a different bumper treatment. A single-exit, dual-tip exhaust located on the driver’s side of the SUV will handle the exhaust duties.

Those closely following the Bronco may have already expected some, if not all of these features. What’s surprising is that our sources tell us that the Bronco Raptor might end up wearing headlights and/or tail lights that will be unique to the model.

Under the hood will reside Ford’s twin-turbocharged 3.0L EcoBoost V6 mated to the 10-speed automatic transmission. No manual is currently planned. A hybrid might be offered later on in the model’s lifecycle. Additionally, a set of thorough chassis and suspension upgrades – which we will outline shortly – will be present and accounted for under the bones.

New Details For The 2023 Ford Bronco Raptor Confirm What We Already Knew.

The Bronco Raptor will bump up the ruggedness and off-road capabilities of the standard Bronco

When Ford Bronco was finally unveiled a couple of months back, it looked quite complete and had ticked almost all the boxes. Almost. The one unticked box that kept the off-roader enthusiasts wanting more was the super-rugged Raptor version of this competent off-roader.

It didn’t take long for the news to start pouring in which more or less confirmed that the Bronco Raptor is arriving soon. If that wasn’t enough, the LinkedIn profile of a Ford engineer came to light where he mentioned that he was working on the 2023 Ford Bronco Raptor.

Even though Ford hasn’t officially announced the Bronco Raptor yet, there are quite a few things already known. Now, Ford Authority has reported them again, which confirms the things we already knew. Which I posted above for ya.

How Will The Bronco Raptor Be On The Outside?

On the outside, the Bronco Raptor will wear a different bumper design and perhaps a few more differentiating elements on the front fascia. It will also ride higher off the ground and will be wider than its tamed alter-ego. The added width will be pronounced by the wide fenders that will also accommodate the larger wheels and tires that could be offered.

The rear will also be revised and receive a unique bumper. There will also be a single exit, dual-tip exhaust peeping out of the driver’s side. The publication also reported that the Bronco Raptor could also feature new exclusive headlights and taillights as well. The 2023 Bronco Raptor is being planned in the two-door as well as the four-door configuration. However, only the four-door could make it to production, following the footsteps of the F-150 Raptor, which is also expected to be offered in a four-door configuration only.

What Will Power The 2023 Ford Bronco Raptor?

Unlike the standard Bronco’s 2.3- and 2.7-liter engine options, a 3.0-liter, V-6 EcoBoost engine will make its presence felt under the hood, and it will be married to a ten-speed automatic transmission.

This falls in line with the earlier reports that the 3.0-liter, V-6 engine from the Explorer ST and Lincoln Aviator could be offered here. It puts out 400 horses and 415 pound-feet of torque. No manual transmission will be offered. A hybrid could be introduced down the line, but initially, it will just be the 3.0-liter V-6 mill. The chassis and suspension will also receive upgrades, but nothing concrete about that is known yet.

However, according to some earlier speculations, we could see a suspension setup similar to the one seen on the Bronco R prototype that took part in the 2019 Baja 1000 race.

Final Thoughts

If we take the Ford Engineer’s LinkedIn profile for granted, the Bronco Raptor will be a 2023 model year, which means it will debut sometime in 2022. This is also in line with our earlier guesstimates. But, if Ford plans to contain some onslaught from the Wrangler 392 Concept, which was announced just a few hours before the Bronco was launched, we could see it debuting by the end of 2021 as well.

Ford should probably concentrate on making the regular Broncos. How many years will it be until we actually see Broncos on dealership lots?

The question is how many years before we see Broncos on dealer lots that don’t have some major issues. I know of one person with a Bronco and it’s been a nightmare with the roof. Major squeaking/rattling and also leaking. Overspray issues on the paint, and body panels that have excessive gap/alignment problems. And yet the guy feels like he won the lottery for paying $5K over MSRP and getting it early….

The hard top is a documented problem and seeing it's a Ford you have to expect mediocre build quality. Remember the bar for this vehicle is a Jeep not a Lexus.

when the quality to match is a wrangler, you can bet they did not spend much time on quality and fit and finish. The bar is amazingly LOW

I saw a Bronco at work yesterday. Didnt even know they were out.
It must have been the most basic model, as it looked just like that Basic, no nothing, plain, boring. Not to mention ugly.

This will probably be my next automotive purchase, but having been bit in the ass by Ford before, I'm gonna wait a few years for them to fix the bugs.

Was it a Bronco tho? People seem to not know the difference.

Also people don't ever test drive or even inspect their vehicles before signing papers. Car is ordered online, ADM paid, and delivered to the house with a good luck sucker. Worst possible time to buy a car especially a brand new model or trim or setup.

I have seen a lot of people on the internet mistake the Bronco Sport for the Bronco. I have seen a few Bronco Sports in the wild but still not a single Bronco nor do the local dealers have any. It's like it exists but only in pictures and videos.

I have seen both in the wild - very different vehicles; bronco sport is a "butch" or squared-off escape/ecosport, almost like a baby/imitation LR Defender. The actual Bronco has soo much room for activities underneath it; looks like a very capable off-roader.

You are right about the more capable Bronco. But the interior of the Bronco is definitely following the Wrangle path of spartan and primitive place to be. I wager for most the bronco sport will do all the offloading they need but in more comfort.

I think they separated the two vehicles by a chasm. Which is good as their is absolutely no overlap. I thought I wanted a bronco, but after seeing the people space, I would pass.

I just do not need THAT much capability.

I really don't understand people complaint about Ford build quality. Their trucks, suvs / Cuvs are built really well. I have yet to really meet anyone who complained about this Ford vehicle. That said, with the Bronco, I called the roof / top being an issue before this even hit the lots. Yeah. There is some crap quality in the cabin (passenger oh **** handle) and some reports of body panel issues. Sadly, this is a result of Covid really ****ing with manufacturing shut downs and companies being victim to shareholders. It's really no different than the Tesla approach of "get the vehicle out and to the customer and we will fix the issues once they have it."

Is it the right approach? Nope. But also can't entirely blame them. I have never been a brand "loyalist" and I'm quick to leave a company when their products go to ****, but I have owned 3 F150's and had nothing but an amazing experience and I've probably suggested Ford Edge, escape, F150 and Mach E to probably a dozen or so people, all of whom have loved their vehicle.

Default 2022 Ford Bronco Raptor

2022 Ford Bronco Raptor

Preview: 2022 Ford Bronco Raptor takes off-road capability to the extreme
Joel Feder
And then there were two. More than a decade after the F-150 Raptor hit the market, the Blue Oval has created the Bronco Raptor. The Raptor pickup truck became more of a success than Ford even anticipated. Now, maybe the Raptor SUV can, too.

On Monday, the 2022 Ford Bronco Raptor was unveiled with a hilariously wide body, long-travel suspension, turbocharged power, and the claimed ability to top 100 mph over essentially any terrain.

Ford said the Bronco Raptor will cost $69,995, including destination, when it goes into production this summer at the Bronco's plant in Wayne, Michigan.

Goes to 111 (mph)

Raptor Advanced Systems Engineer Jack Cooper told Motor Authority that the Bronco Raptor can not only top 100 mph on just about any terrain, it can go 111 mph.

It took a significant amount of changes to the Bronco to make it capable of such feats of heroism. It has F-150 Raptor suspension, shocks, hubs, brakes, and exhaust. Technically it has even more than that, but essentially Ford grabbed from the pickup’s goody bag to create the Braptor.

The Fox 3.1 internal bypass semi-active dampers—the fronts feature integrated reservoirs while the rears get remote reservoirs—and springs were cribbed from the F-150 Raptor, but Ford tuned them specifically to handle the Bronco’s different load. The 17-inch wheels (beadlocks will be available) wrapped in 37-inch BFGoodrich K02 all-terrain tires bolt to an M14 pattern like the F-150 rather than the standard Bronco’s M12 pattern. The SUV also gets the F-150 Raptor's front and rear brakes and wheel bearings, and larger tie rods. The front stabilizer bar disconnects and features a Raptor-specific tune.

The suspension and tire changes add up to a Bronco with 13.1 inches of ground clearance, which is 4.8 more than a base Bronco and 1.6 more than a Sasquatch package on 35s. Bronco Raptors have 13 inches of travel up front, which matches the F-150 Raptor on 37s, and 14.0 inches in the rear, falling just 0.1 inch short of the pickup.

The Bronco’s frame, which is smaller and thinner than the F-150’s, was bolstered and reinforced internally between the front wheels and A-pillar. Frame brackets for the axles were beefed up with a Raptor-specific bushing design to prevent the axle and CV joints from rocking too much during pitch and roll. Extra jounce bumpers at each corner were added to withstand the full wheel articulation and hard landings the Bronco might encounter. Ford installed ride-height sensors from the pickup at all four corners so the Bronco Raptor knows the position of each wheel at all times. The front shock towers from the Raptor pickup were used, but they had to be modified for the shock’s different mounting angles on the SUV.

The C- and B-pillars are reinforced, the former with a carbon-composite brace and the latter with an aluminum brace. Together the bracing increases torsional stiffness by 50%. The addition of the B-pillar brace will make the open-top experience of a Bronco Raptor slightly less open.

The Bronco Raptor is powered by a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V-6 that will make more than 400 hp, but final power figures haven’t yet been certified. A 10-speed automatic transmission handles shifting duties. The four-wheel-drive system is shared with other Broncos, but the Sasquatch package’s 2-speed transfer case running a 3.06 4Lo ratio for a 67.7:1 crawl ratio is standard.

A larger drive shaft sends power to a semi-floating solid Dana 50 Heavy-Duty AdvanTEK rear axle with an upgraded 235-millimeter ring gear. The Dana 44 up front hooks to upgraded half-shafts and runs a 210-mm ring gear. The wall thickness of both tubes increases from 5 to 9 mm because as Cooper stated, “it’s not so much the jumps as it’s the landings.” The upgraded axles increase the track width 8.6 inches over a standard Bronco.

A performance dual exhaust system comes standard, but it’s not an equal length exhaust like on the Raptor pickup. It has electronic valves that enable multiple exhaust modes, including a quiet mode for your nice neighborly needs.

The new exhaust moves the muffler forward, which freed up space for a reinforced hitch assembly that helps increase towing capacity from 3500 to 4,500 lb. A new Tow/Haul mode specific to the Bronco Raptor joins the SUV’s drive modes.

2022 Ford Bronco Raptor

2022 Ford Bronco Raptor

Looks like…a Raptor

The Bronco Raptor looks like someone poured a can of Red Bull into the gas tank of a Bronco and said, “Go!”

The bolt-on fenders and flares are punched out to the extreme, and they make the Raptor 9.8 inches wider than a standard Bronco and about 4 inches wider than a Bronco with the Sasquatch package. This adds up to the Bronco Raptor measuring 7.2-feet wide. For those keeping track at home, the Bronco Raptor’s 86.9-inch width is only a hair narrower than an F-150 Raptor. It looks even more like a bulldog than before.

While the flares and fenders bolt on and off, they require special tools instead of using fasteners like standard Broncos. Each Bronco Raptor will come with a specific tool kit to remove the fenders and flares for extreme off-roading. The same kit provides tool to remove the six bolts holding the running boards, which hide standard rock rails.

The Raptor pickup’s trademark marker lights are required here due to the width, but because the fenders and flares are removable, the outermost markers are relocated to the side mirrors. The LED daytime running lights are now amber, like the Raptor pickup, and the new LED taillights are a riff off the units on the Bronco R. The taillights had to be moved outboard and rearward to be seen at a 45-degree angle, as required per regulation. A wider third brake light features three LEDs, and the spare tire carrier was reinforced and made of magnesium because the spare 37-inch tire and wheel are so heavy.

The reinforced front skid plate is now made of aluminum rather than steel like on other Broncos, and a steel modular bumper with removable end caps mounts Rigid off-road and fog lights.

The sculpted hood and fenders are made out of fiberglass-plastic composite and feature functional vents. On the driver side of the hood, Ford embossed the four years the Bronco took the overall win at Baja. The rear fender flares feature a rock guard that is ribbed to prevent rock chips and can be replaced if damaged.

Inside, Bronco Raptor features a 12.0-inch touchscreen and a 12.0-inch digital gauge cluster. Sport bucket seats with heavy bolstering are wrapped in marine-grade vinyl on base models. Black or blue suede upholstery from the Raptor pickup will be available, along with a vinyl-wrapped instrument topper. The steering wheel sports the trademark Raptor red line at the 12 o'clock position and hides column-mounted magnesium shift paddles. Buttons for the active exhaust, suspension, and steering modes adorn the steering wheel, along with a new R mode button, which can be programmed to quickly choose your preferred suspension, exhaust, steering, drive mode, and 4x4 settings.

The limited options list will include a Lux package with a 10-speaker B&O sound system and adaptive cruise control. A graphics delete option will be offered, as well as a graphics package similar to that of the Bronco R racer. Orange seat belts and carbon fiber trim will also be available.

I'm sure it will be great off road but is hideously ugly. I understand why they are needed but those rubbermaid fender flares look so bad.

I can't believe other automakers aren't heavily invested in the hex textured plastic panels. I've been led to believe by Subaru that they are an aerodynamic game changer.

Default LEAKED: Ford F-150 Raptor Getting Supercharged Predator V8

Quote:
LEAKED: Ford F-150 Raptor Getting Supercharged Predator V8
by Sebastian Cenizo

The above sheet shows that the 5.2-liter supercharged V8 known as the Predator will be migrating from its original home of the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 to the F-150 Raptor R. In the Mustang, it generates 760 horsepower and 625 lb-ft of torque. By comparison, the Ram TRX with its 6.2-liter supercharged Hellcat V8 produces 702 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque. However, since all we have is confirmation that the rumored engine is going into the Raptor R, we do not know if Ford will detune the motor slightly. What we do know is that, whatever it produces, the most hardcore Raptor yet will certainly be a capable off-roader.

Recent rumors have suggested that orders will open in the fall, which aligns with what we heard about the truck being revealed in the third or fourth quarter of the year. We also feel confident in guessing that Ford's outstanding 10-speed automatic will handle transmission duties, but we have no word on what the brutish truck will cost. The Ram TRX retails for around $70,000, but knowing how greedy Ford dealers have been lately, we wouldn't put much faith in getting the new Raptor at MSRP. Whatever happens, we hope that Ford's new plan to stop price gouging is effective.
