I was waiting for the hook to fail/snap. He should show that to the manufacture and get some sweet advertising dollars off that, I'd buy them.

He didn't lose any fingers, but I know his hands were ****ed up, between the heat of the hook and the friction when he panics and grabs the cable.

That was just dumb. Wrong gear, wrong gloves.

Dumb on a lot of levels.

Even if he wasn't *planning* on using the carabiner to slide down the cable, he should have known that wasn't a smart idea. If the friction/heat didn't compromise his carabiner, he's probably damaged the cable for anyone else using it.

And gloves plus anything involving ropes or cables is a no-no.

The thought of that cable snapping with someone on it... ****. People that do this sort of stuff tend to say they'll be fine if they die doing it. Gotta say it would be hella more exciting than most other ways to go out.

He had a chute on, why didn't he just bail before hitting the first down line?

I'm not sure he could. He had to hang on the line and unhook to jump off.

Wouldn't be surprised if his level of planning didn't include a knife to cut the rope.

There is a zipline place here that has like 60+ ziplines (I think largest in the US), some of them 60+mph. Braking is manual, with leather gloves. I took some people there who had only been to places where they have some mechanism to automatically slow you down and they freaked out a bit.

It was nice of him to clean the rust off that cable for other people!

I want to know how the 2nd guy did it without crashing into the first guy.

Also, at that point... why bother with a helmet?

IIRC that was a Fox primetime special a few years back. It's 100% better as a short youtube clip.
