Default USB Connector Not Working: 2016 WRX

I've been using the USB connection in the center console to power my phone and play music since I purchased the vehicle in June 2015. It was working flawlessly until a few days ago. I plugged my phone in and it started acting like it was being plugged and unplugged continuously. After that incident the USB connection stopped working. I'm unable to connect to my head unit via this port and it won't even provide power. All other outlets and AUX connection are working fine. I checked all audio related fuses and even tried different cables with no luck. I want to avoid taking it into the dealer if possible. Has anyone else run into this issue? I searched but was unable to find a similar incident.

Have you tried to plug your phone into your home computer or wall charger? Maybe it's your phone pins and not the car! Just something to rule out anyway.
I mean, my phone is 2yrs old and it's charger/USB connection port is getting worn out.

It's an iPhone 5s and it seems to charge fine on my computer and wall outlet. Really confused with the issue.

Pull the head unit out and verify the connector did not come loose. This is exactly what happened to mine and the root cause.

if it wasnt under warranty I would recommend this. Since it is under warranty, your best bet is not to mess with it and take it in. If you start tinkering with it and you are unable to fix it or things get worse, then take it in and they find evidence that you tampered with it, they will not warranty it.

Probably the best course of action.

Hopefully that's the cause. Did you pull the head unit yourself?

You are absolutely right. I'm just trying to avoid the dealership because of my bolt ons and pro tune. I wouldn't want that stuff on record, if they even care to note it, while fixing something completely unrelated.

Aside from the two bolt that you must go under the dash for, the radio is super easy to pull out.
The dealer is not going to give you any problem for taking your radio out. I mean, how would they even know? They can't and won't void anything unless you were to cut or alter something in any way, but you should be able to take your entire car apart, put it back together and they technically still have to warranty the parts against defects. I love how so many people are paranoid about nothing.
FWIW, I've repaired numerous items myself while under warranty and submitted a claim myself and got reimbursed from the manufacturer. I've done this for years. Obviously, this can only be done for a part that fails which can be visibly seen in a picture.
BTW. A 6"+3" extension got those 10mm bolts out no prob for me. The glove box will need to be dropped down as if you were getting to your cabin filter. Face plate pops off very easily. Pry out top with plastic wedge. It's only clipped in place.

Lol. I'll stop being paranoid and will probably end up doing this myself. Thanks for the input!

What I usually find is the terminal wafer gets broken in the plug - I can't count how many I have replaced in various model/years. Apparently all it takes is plugging in one USB upside down and it snaps inside. Subaru sells it as the whole assembly.

I fixed mine by changing the stock head unit an aftermarket one.

I opened the diagnostics screen on the infotainment. The two USBs and Aux are not showing connection.

cuz nothing is connected, that's why.

my used 2019 wrx USB function is wonky, flash drive seems to connect ok but loses connection often. iPhone gets recognized as USB device *once in a blue moon*, but carplay never works. Carplay doesnt detect the car, no pairing can be done. My phone's carplay found buddys 2021 wrx right away. He got the nav screen
