hearing safe is a stupid term, but it's far better than 165 db+.

Hi all

Been getting the itch for a new gun. What's catching my eye are the super sub-compact pistols in .22 caliber like the Ruger LCP II. Something for plinking when out camping. Anyone here have one they recommend? I'm also fairly new to the gun world, any brands to steer towards or away from? I've had a Glock 19 and used to carry a Beretta for work, and currently own a SIG P229.

ruger SR22 is reliable with a decent trigger for the category and better sights than the lcp II. grip is fairly small, but they all are on tiny guns.

Looks to be just a bit bigger. I'll have to start hitting shops and see them in person.

Check out this .22 I just got from my grandpa. Remington model 12 pump action. It cycles fine and I bet it would fire, but it's been sitting in a closet for 20 years. I've looked up the serial #, I think it was made in the late 1920's

Does anyone run hexmags magazines with your rifle? I'm thinking about picking some up and have seen mostly good stuff from them.

Mrs Orndog inherited her dad's old Stevens model 58C... after her stupid family abused it to the point of malfunction. I cleaned her up (the shotgun) etc but it still wouldn't pull back and eject shells. So I replaced the extractor:

Well it'll pull them back better but still not eject. So I ordered an ejector, which has been sitting for months because I have no clue where it's supposed to go .

I don't know why I didn't ask OT before. I've googled the hell out of Stevens and Savage, closest I ever came was an exploded view with an arrow pointing vaguely at the 410. Any ideas?

Yes. According to the old ass manual it can shoot 22, 22L and 22LR without adjustment.

The exploded view on this page may get you closer in the ballpark but it's still very vague. There can be only so many places where a bent wire spring like that shoud fit.

Thanks both for the links, I should have mentioned that I bought from Numrich and yeah, that's the only reference I've ever found on the interwebs.

I have zero ideas.

Cornell Publications has reprints of old manuals and stuff. They've been useful for me when working on old stuff.

All they had listed was a component parts catalog, which looked to be where the numrich illustrations came from.

That's not the 'head' of the sharp almost-180* bend in the ejector spring sticking out of the slot in the receiver in the first pic?

I've wondered as much. Like perhaps it was broken and that's what's left, or...? But if it is I still can't figure how I'd install a new one. But now you've got me wanting to look again.

If the bolt is all the way back in your pics which puts the extractor claw pretty much right above that wire loop then that must be it. Judging from the shape of the ejector, it must be spring steel and has some tension on it allowing it to pop into place once the bolt comes all the way back. I would assume the ejector mounts between the receiver and the stock somehow. Have you taken the receiver/barrel/trigger assembly out of the stock yet? Looks like it's held in by all of one screw.

That is probably it. But it appears to go from there back towards the trigger assembly. And not sure if that mark across it is factory or some sort of damage. I can't figure how the ejector would work in that position.

Looks like it was staked in there with a chisel or something. Weird.

The ejector definitely looks bent and 'not right' in any event. Not sure what to tell you there...

Ok, so between me pulling off the back slide for the magazine and then trying to pry the ejector out it got broken free from its years of neglect and the steel is in fact springing again! So as long as the extractor holds the shell and pulls it that far back, the ejector should do its thing.
I am going to leave the original in because if ordering parts has taught me anything the new non-oem parts suck. I made numrich send me two magazines and neither properly holds the shells (the noses point up out of the mag drastically), and neither snaps in place properly without fiddling. Luckily I have one original mag at least.

Chalk up another conversation with the wife:
"Where did you learn that trick/tip/info/bit of esoteric knowledge not at all related to cars?"
"Why, the Subaru forum of course!"
