Maybe stupid question - dead alternator/battery?
Hi everybody, I am currently in a really bad situation-
I am supposed to move across the state this Thursday, but today I shut my car off and now it won't turn back on... Info: Today it was 95 degrees and 90% humidity, it is typically 70s where I live car is an 06 Forester XT manual, only mods being some professionally done interior electronics/car audio, downpipe, GFB BPV, and STi top mount. Reason I say professionally done interior electronics is I that I don't think they are what is preventing my car from working. So I was driving from work to home, and my head unit & radar detector just turned off while driving, then turned back on. Engine & other car electronics (like dashboard) stayed on like nothing happened. Was going about 40mph in 5th gear. Happened one more time, only radar detector turned off. 25mph 3rd gear. Parked, turned off key, and car is completely dead. No dash lights when I turn the key, not even with a jump pack/jumper cables. Battery terminal connections are fine, battery measures 10V with multi meter while disconnected from car harness. I am unsure if alternator stopped working and caused the battery to die, or if the battery is just dead for some other reason like me leaving a light on. Mainly, I am wondering, is there some other reason this might happen that I haven't thought of? All my fuses are good. Willing to pay somebody venmo/zelle/whatever if they can offer helpful advice here. I plan on calling shops but I doubt I will find anybody available within 2 days... Thanks cproo12

That's what I am worried about... bad connection. I checked everything and it seems okay, did not have multimeter with me though... Had to walk home... Going to bring my multimeter and start checkin for continuity across my things.
I am hoping it is just the battery, just anxious about replacing that and going down a rabbit hole trying to get it to work... Never had any problems like this before. |

This is an electrical issue and you should likely farm it out. Regardless....if your unconnected battery voltage is 10, that's legit bad and needs replaced as step zero. After that, any auto parts store can test your alternator.
